Ok I bought the new possessed models because they are just too cool. I had intended to use them as a maxed out CC Chosen squad with lightning claws. Now when comparing Lightning Claw maxed Chosen and Possessed I have to think again point/stat wise.
1. A standard Possessed Marine has the same stats as Chosen but for 1+S, 1+A, and an I.S. Thatís pretty good for +8pts per model donít you think?
2. A chosen squad (lets say 5) with 4 pairs of LC have basically 9 attacks, no A.S. and re-rolls on wounds + they can infiltrate. Great! A Possessed squad has 10 attacks and a free random upgrade which could include a free movement or CC modifier. Now up them to 8. Chosen have 12 attacks. Possessed have 18. Now make it 10 and 20! 20 Possessed! This is a dice game after all.
3. Now Chosen cannot go beyond 10 in a squad so Iíll give the points based on that.
Chosen x 10
Lightning Claws x 4
14 base attacks
4 re-rolls to wound W/No armor save
Possessed x 10
20 base attacks
1 Random modifier (see Dex)
5+ Inv save
Both seem very good for the points. Ok well the Chosen can also shoot if they need to. HmmmÖ
Anyway Iím not sure myself at this point, but I wanted to raise a discussion about it.
One more thing. Either type of squad is going to get targeted so this really should be looked at as an army list entry without consideration of the other listís components.
the chosen have the infultrate ability so they don't really have to worry about getting into close combat after being shot up too much. the possesed arent good in my mind unless they have a rino with them. even if they get the movement modifiers they are still a little too slow. if they arent in a rino they are going to get shot up before they even get into close combat. granted a unit of chosen with thoes lightning claws are going to attract a lot of attention too, and it is hard to infultrate 10 models close and out of line of sight.
i think that instead of the possesed that you have chosen i would go with something like this,
mark of slaanesh
3 more points but i think that they would be mch more effective then the chosen and a lot more durable with the increased int.
it really depends on what you roll. if you get some of the better ones like rending or power weapons thoes possesed are going to be a lot more powerfull then the chosen. its really a coin toss with the possesed. they are either better or even with the chosen in my eyes.
Even without the random roll it seems Possessed are still very good as a base.
Ok lets look at it this way.
Possessed get D. Strength, D. Mutation, D. Aura + a free random skill modifier.
Chosen with LC get Spiky Bits, Power weapons and Veteran skill (Infiltrate). And they can still shoot.
The chosen stats you listed are a little misleading. While chosen only have a base attack of 1, they all come with bolt pistols, which means that even the ones that don't have lightning claws should have the additional attack figured in to the total number of attacks.
Personally, I'd go with consistency over random effects.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
Additionally, the value of infiltrating can't be overstated. One or two infiltrating squads of Chosen can really wreck an opponent's battle plan.
Right you are Rabbit. Still getting used to the new Dex.
I'm not trying to be misleading. I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this.
The power of possessed will always vary, with chosen you know what to do with them.
Something to consider with a possessed squad, if you plan on taking land raiders(2 or more) you have a combat ready vehicle to make use of if they end up being slow, or you could slog them on in. With a dedicated rhino you are only hedging your bets so much. The raider just gives your over all list more utility and makes possessed interesting, and "almost" competitive.
