So, I notice most people seem to be playing one of the core Legions or groups in the Codex.
Is this mostly due to the special rules in the last codex?
Is it looked down upon to come up with your own Renegade Chapter? Are there any rules about what you need to include?
I know that you won't get to come up with any special rules of your own. And I understand that tournaments will let you re-purpose models as long as they look like what you are saying they are. IE: Chaplain + Spikes = Dark Apostle = Chaos Lord or Sorceror
I just want to make sure that if I go on to enter tournaments people aren't going to have a problem with my custom color scheme and mix of Cult Troops, Marked Troops, etc.
Right now I am planning on building towards a custom made Renegade Legion with a mix of Tzeetch and Nurgle.
I am new to the hobby so please forgive me if this is a n00b question.
Especially with the way GW has been going recently, it is allowed and even encouraged by the Army Books to create your own chapter/group/whatever and make your own background, fluff, etc. So yeah, make a new Chaos Marine group. One thing to bear in mind is you can't break the rules, so you can't make a Chaos group that has Tzeentch only AND Nurgle only powers. But outside of that, go nuts making your own, I find the player-created stuff to be the most fun!
you should make up your own renegade chapter because different looking armies is what keeps things fresh and this is especially true with the new codex. I made up my own coverting all my black legion models into my phantomreapers. No one should have any problems with your color schemes. Models are always fine as long as they somewhat resemble a chaos lord or sorceror. You also don't have to make your own rules, but you can for friendly games as long as their fair and interesting.
Do it! As long as you can Fluff It then it doesn't matter.
You don't even have to call Marks by their proper names. Plague Marines with the MoN could be renegades with an increased toughness due to their bionic upgrades.
MoT could be slave drones or the first stage in the Obilterator Virus.
God I love the fluff-freedom in the new Codex!
That's the thing I like about the new codex, your not stuck with the old guys.
The codex (and the white dwarf that came out before it) do showcase several spliter "warbands" that you can use or make your own. (I particularly like "The Purge")
In the Castle of Pain on a Mountain of Skulls I sat on a Throne of Blood. What was will be, what is will be no more. Now is the season of Evil!

i prefer the older legions, i'm a bit of an old fashioned fart in that respect. But it's perfectly ok to come up with your own chapter (hell, i might do it too! -i'm not a conservative old fart )
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.
