Ok I just finished a battle where I for the first (and probably last time) fielded a Deamon Weapon (undivided). I used it on a lone character, maybe things would have turned out differently if he had a retinue.
On a first look it seems to as good as the old Man Reaper (and at XXpts you would think it ought to be a decent weapon). While you can do devastating damage it can also fail you miserably.
It doesn't bother me that you can get wounded while using it, that's fluffy but the fact that you have a close to 17% chance of noot doing any attacks every round is absolutely terrible!!! Not doing any harm on a charge might be the bane for a single character.
I realise that only trying it out once don't really qualify for a thorough test but I've had it with this weapon.
I'm quite surprised that many tips concerning HQs include Deamon Weapons as a valid choice. I would tell people to stay away from it.
Do you think it has a place in a list? I guess many of you have tried it more than me, what do you think?

sure, it doesn't exactly give you consistency, but depending on what kind of army you're playing and playing against, a daemon weapon wielding chaos lord can be very effective. use him as a wild card sort of character.
i would probably not use a lord with daemon weapon, i have enough of wild cards in my TS army.
"I have seen you humans, trying to forge an Empire in the name of a corpse"
I think most critically he needs to be with a group of people. Sure 1 guy doesn't do any attacks on the charge thats a bummer, but thats what 8 other raptors are for. And they are also wounds. Your IC doesn't need to be lonely, and playing him that way cripples the character.
Air Calv Guard: 3 - 2 - 1
Word Bearers: 23 - 9 - 4
I have yet to try it out, but from a mathhammer standpoint it delevers less wounds to the table then my old infiltrating dark blade lord at a higher points cost... that said i'm gonna stick with the timewarp prince or the lash sorcerer for my hq choices....
Please watch out for points costs.
Also, you can't test out anything just once. That's not conclusive in anyway what so ever.
Take the daemon weapon out at least 3-5 times and then make up your mind over a longer period of time.
Anyone can have an unlucky match. Just look at how Cal and I roll on vassal.
On a lone character a DW is a reckless gamble, but on a character with retinue it might better as it isn't a catastrophy if he don't get to fight.
I still think some other weapon would be better even on a HQ with company. If the lord has friends you don't need the extra attacks in the first case. It's the lone character that needs the extra attacks...
Just my thoughts...
Yeah I know that one try is nothing so that's why I'm asking people who have tried a DW more than once
My first experience made me never want to try it out again, so I probably wont unless someone tells me otherwise The maths dont impress me but maybe peoples experiences and/or tips will...

I've personally had a great time with the undivided daemon weapon. I've used it 2-3 times.. so it's still too early to tell.
I can't see any problems with the unidecided, wings and daemon weapon affair. 150 points for a very killy chap. Send him around with some raptors, and he's happier than a dung beetle who's found a great big poo.
I would consider using a winged HQ with slaanesh or tzeentch DW into a min squad of raptors all with meltas and a champ with P.Fist. Real nice squad to take out infantry... heros with the DW or PF... high T models with the PFist and maybe get a lucky 6 if the enemy has 7 T....and tanks with the meltas or PFist.
Or... instead of instant killing things you " Can " get a nice amount of ap3 shots along with all the extra CC atks.
However, I'm not even going to consider this HQ unless I'm playing a 1850+ game.
I'd rather field more troops or vehicles.

the face that it can totaly screw you over and cause your chargeing chaos lord to do no damage at all when fighting and then getting mobbed by somthing small and unassumeing like white shields it exactly the point of the fluff, so you take that gamble for the potential it can offer, i for one think the DW are great now.
and besides, if he dies, you deserve it, HERETIC!
