Hi everyone. I have been attempting to construct a new army list and I have to admit that although I have played since second edition, I have very little experience playing an army based on the use of rhinos with predators supporting. As it appears that their inclusion is now unavoidable I was wondering if I could leverage off of other people's experience using such armies. Specifically, how many rhinos to predators should be included in a 1500, 2000, and 2500 pt list and what are some general tactics to ensure their survival (use of smoke launchers, what to watch for, etc.). Currently in my 2000 pt list I have 2 rhino based squads backed up by 2 predators and an infiltrating group of chosen. I have 3 obliterators, but I get the feeling I should probably sacrifice the oblits in all my lists for an extra predator and more guys. My only fear is that I play Tau regularly and I dislike bringing large numbers of vehicles against them, but I admit I have never seen what a mobile chaos force can do so. I am very enthusiastic about trying this new style of play (RIP infiltrating army) and any help would be greatly appreciated .
I play mech chaos and tried to before the new chaos codex. So far in my 1500 point list I use 2 rhinos and 2 preds. In a 2000 I would take 3 rhino's and 2 or 3 preds. In 2500 probably 3 preds and 3-4 rhinos. I thinks Its very rewarding and offers a very modern feeling army, this is one reason I play mech, because what army these days footslogs it accross the battlefield running straight at the enemy with no armor protection? I used to use obliterators, but have gotten rid of them for more men/transports and I too have a friend that plays tau and my vehicles can become very shot up, but I try my best to make the shots go towards the rhino's which are actually expendable at 35 points.
What you should always try to do with a mech army especially playing against tau is keep your rhino's in cover at the start and charge 1st turn, launch smoke. Also keep preds in cover. Then the next turns either unload your men and fire or continue on your way. My list is in the army list section labeled undivided anti-mech if you wish to look.
I believe GW is heading towards more mech armies among the space marines and chaos to incorporate more vehicles in the game too. Chaos also have it great because of the new thousand sons which can dish out ap3 pain on the tau as well.
Yeah I know I'm throwing out a bunch of ideas, but I don't know what to say???
yea in my 1850 i use 2 rinos, 2 pred's, and a defiler. if i dropped down to 1500 i would drop the defiler. yea mech is good and now that rinos are cheeper its almost a must to inclure some for a couple of squads. they are more then just transports, you can start the game with your models outside of the rino and use the rino's to block line of sight and create some obsticals for assaulting troops to go around.
