is having to many terminators a bad thing? i know it takes away from the model count but they are just amazing in the new codex.
i want to run somthing like this in my 1850 army
x1 heavy flamer
x1 power fist
x2 squads of them.
would it be better to do one big squad and give them a icon or something? or is it better to keep them cheep.
in my 2000 list i was thinking of running 2 squads like that and a third with melta guns.
let me know how they play and if they make it worth while.
I want to say yes and no.
Yes, because, like you said, it takes away from the model count, which really helps a lot.
No, because these units can devastate an opponent, and they are pretty cheap for terminators. Also, in lower-point games, most opponents will fall under terminators, due to the fact the are uncommon and so most people are not geared for them.
I hope this helped.
Too many terminators? Pfft! I run 2 units of 5 Tzeentch Terminators w/ 4 Combi-Plasmas, 1 Hvy Flamer, and 1 Powerfist, in my 1,500pts list.
These 2 units are backed up by an even more expensive unit of 8 Slaanesh Chosen with 4 Meltaguns and a pair of Lightning Claw... forward teleport homer is always good. I've even phased out a Necron player on the top of 3rd turn right after combat with this list... Tzeentch Terminators, you can't go wrong with them
Anima Tactics - try it out!
to be quite honest I do believe that you can go overboard with termis. It comes down to the fact that the lower your model count is, the less volume of fire you can output which means that horder armies will be able to get up clase and personal and bog your expensive termi units down a lot more easily.
I would stick with a max of 1 of the squads you mentioned per 1k points unless you know you are not going to face nids / orks / DE / IG.imo it is better to keep the smaller squads cheap but grabbing an icon for a squad of 8+ termis is definitely doable.would it be better to do one big squad and give them a icon or something? or is it better to keep them cheep.
IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT!
I survived LO Chat thanks to: Karmoon, Rabbit, Process, Tossy and Meish.
I notice that everyone is taking these 4-5 man combi-plasma termi squads and I am also thinking of doing the same but I am curious if it is better to mix special weapons in a squad such as this. I was thinking of something along the lines of 2 Plasma, 2 Meltas, and 1 Heavy Flamer this way you can still be effective against hordes, MEQs, and anti-tank.
Anyone try this yet?
Here's mu current list below. I definitely go overboard with terminators. My idea against horde armies is that I can use the refused flank, with only 11 models+2vehicles on the board.
I'll try to get on one flank, drop the termies, and force my horde opponent to attack me piecemeal. Although Tzeentch and Nurgle termies are awesome, they don't fit my fluff as well, and these icons are quite expensive too.
I realize this list may be overboard, but I'll have to try it out (most of my models are on the other side of the Atlantic right now) and make changes as necessary.

I must admit, I love the small terminator 5 man squad the original poster has mentioned.
It's fun, flexible and a great threat against everything.
As the matches get bigger, combo it with more stuff. Another terminator here, an icon there.

As I said, Terminators are a pretty sweet deal in the new 'dex. I've got a squad of a half dozen in my 2000 list; I could use more but I wanted to get more boots on the table.
I like how they get power weapons instead of fists... there are only so many unique looking fist conversions, a power weapon can be anything.
Just remember to try to keep upgrades stacked... some of those Termies will die and you don't want to have to choose between fist, heavy flamer, Champ, or Icon. Best to have them all on one unit.
Unless your opponent has a **** Vindicare. Then hide.
