Firstly, sorry for the bombardment of questions, inevitible after playing for the first time ther are a few new things going through my mind about where to take my army.
Whenever i have seen Daemons used i have really liked the idea! however i feel a little begruged to buy the metal blister pack versions, the value for money isnt grabbing me to be honest.
What i would love to know is, are there some alternative 'left-field' models out there that would be fine to use for daemons?.
now, nearly all my games will be played with friends, however if it is possible i would like this model choice to be 'legal' if possible.
i understand that some poeple have used the 'beastmen of chaos' boxed men for warhammer? what other thingsdo people do? im really up for sugestions from all angles the the down right mad and bizare to fairly 'normal'
look forward to hearing from you soon
I think anything can pass as daemons so long as they are thoroughly daemonic looking and your opponent knows what they are. Particularly now that daemons are simply generic "Lesser Daemons" and "Greater Daemons". Of course, lesser daemons should be roughly the size of a space marine and a greater daemon should tower above space marines.
I would suggest looking at the Warhammer Fantasy Line. They have some nice, daemonic looking models.
Im gonna be using plastic zombies as "plague zombies" in my Nurgle themed army as lesser daemons....
Instead of summoning daemons, they are infected enemy troops, and they fit in with the army theme quite nicely!
Herald of the Colonel; Festooned with pistols, riddled with vermin, and finger lickin' good...
Some of us old Alpha Legion players throw in our Cultists as lesser demons. Personally I'd say just about anything is good as long as it's not a space marine.

I came, I saw, I got a different type of Leman Russ.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
Something from the Tomb Kings range could be interesting. Also, modified..Dryads? I think from the Wood Elf range could be nifty as well.
Pretty much any creature-esque thing under the sun. Daemons can look like anything, the ones in the codex are just examples of certain kind or certain god-aspects.
"If you can wait til I get home, then I swear we can make this last."
I imagine that beastmen would make good lesser daemons though if I were you I would pick up some of the sweet metal daemonette models before they are replaced by the new ugly ones.

Yeah, anything goes with a bit of daemonig modelling and/or painting
The manager of the GW store in Helsinki has made very good-looking Daemons from the Dryads. I think Dean used heads from Daemonettes on one or two of the models, but that's not really necessary in my opinion, as long as the paint job is different...
