Over the past week or so I've been asking around for advice on different armies to start collecting, and after playtesting some of them yesterday, wound up with Slaanesh.
1) There seem to be very few who play it so far as I can tell
2) Very few people know what they can do, so will undoubtedly underestimate them
3) Their traditional colors involve pink... (see 'underestimate' above)
4) I like the idea
5) If I'm allowed to subscribe to BiD's reasoning, it'll make me 1.2 female. However that works.
On the minus side, I know next to nothing about them.
No wait, I take it back. I do have my Chaos Space Marines codex here... but I was wondering if I could ask what sort of things would be good to put into a Slaanesh army from experience?
wait, being slannesh makes you .2 female?!? .... well... then... Guess thats intresting. Anyway, from my experiences Slannesh works well with a nice ballance between shooting and close combat. The sonic weaponry upgrades are a tad expensive, but worth it in 1500 points, maybe even 1000. This lets you have a mobile firing force that can advance with your cc squads if need be. As for cc squads, if there blessed by the sacred number they don't have too many people in the unit, unless of course there 12 strong, so some times it might be better to not have the unit be blessed, especially in rhino squads, or you could use two blessed rhino squads together. Generraly each squad's AC, when equipped for close combat, has a power weapon and daemonic strength. Doubled with warp scream this can really help a squad to live.
As for the daemonnettes, they can be very powerful with a bit of luck, and just there abilty to be summoned anywhere on the battle field you have an icon can be very helpful, and frighting to the enemy as well.
Another unit that I find really helpful, is Noise Marine Havocs, equipped with 4 blastmasters you can get alot of hits off, and anything that isn't a space marine won't get a save. Not to mention wounding on a 2+, and if you have the points giving them tank hunters will allow you to take down anything with ease.
As for your lord, combat drugs is very useful, and with a bit of correct postioning, lash of torment will make the lord hard as heck to kill, specially when combined with one of the drugs effects, I wouldn't take more then 3 effects at once though, kinda pushing your luck.
Good luck, the dark prince welcomes you into his fold
Aye! Cheers, Jessica. Power to the pink. Slaanesh is very much infantry driven. Kit them out with sonic blasters, and go sit them in cover. You're generating 3 24" bolter shots per turn -- that's basically an upgraded stormbolter for the same price as one. ^^. Don't use Slaanesh daemon weapons -- they suck.
I think its a matter of personel oppinon, with the new assault rules models within 2" may only lend a single attack at base stats, enter in the lash of torment which by passes this rule. By postioning your lord correctly, so that it is only in btb with one enemy model, or by using your own models as a screen, not in btb with any at all, you can make it very hard to take your lord down in CC, since the enemy can only make one attack per model against it, while it still can lash down quite a few enemys a turn. With proper placement, the lash of torment can be one of the best Daemon Weapons there is.Don't use Slaanesh daemon weapons -- they suck.

Eeexcellent, eeexcellent... the galaxy will yet bow to Slaa-
Oh, sorry. Yes, well thanks for your advice both of you I'm so printing this thread out before I go in this week - suffice to say that after I have my obligatory how-cool-does-the-model-look scan, it'll be the most important thing I consider for what to buy. I'm looking forward to this...

Slaanesh? *curses and spits*
a havoc squad with sonic weaponry is deadly and a must have from experience.
you'll want atleast one squad of 12 marines with bolters as the block for your army and to take and hold objectives. a CC squad with furius charge will strike before most enemies and another must have, add in a champ with D Strength and a power weapon and you'll have a formidable CC squad. you may also want to take a predator armed with lascannons for fire support.

And thanks, glad I could help you out, and I would have to agree on that if your a girl you beome .2 male...
Ooohkay then... if I recall correctly, BiD became .2 female by gaining a breast. Does that mean I'm going to lose one or something?
Thanks, guys - and as of earlier today, I am now the proud leader of two squads of 12 Emperor's Children.
I mean, sure, they're looking kinda metallic right now... but hopefully they'll soon develop a little color.
Welcome to the Emperor's children, M'lady. I've been playing my EC army for the past month or so and love them. Don't be afraid to use plenty of pink. Most of my models have at least one shoulder pad that is pink with red ink and almost white highlights. I tried to make it look like pink flesh that had been whipped furiously, hehe. Also, the old style noise marine heads are great and only cost $1 apiece from GW.
Jack of all trades, master of none.
