Are they worth it? with no save and with such small squads will they be effective enough? I was flipping through my codex thinking they'd be ok, but they don't seem like they'd survive long enough to get into CC let alone survive it.
I had also been considering the horrors of Tzeench when I looked it up...

I believe there some thread out their like this, but no spawn aren't worth and thats speaking for 95 - 100% of members I believe. They don't have a save, they have a low initiative and at 40 points I'd rather get more squad members or grab some icons.
Spawn are also very random and hard to control. The only thing they offer is a distraction and even at that other units are better.
Edit: As for the horrors I wouldn't mind you using them as spawn if thats what your getting at and no one probably will mind because by seeing you using spawn their think they'll have an advantage or something.
Hmm, interesting question. Since I already fail at life i'll go ahead and say spawn can be good. if your opponent overestimates them he/she will waste a turn killing them, if underestimated they can do serious damage in c/c
although i think if you look around the general consensus is that they are poo

I think they can be put to good use, but I'd never field against Marines or MEQs.
The Spawns (unless you create your own using Gift of Chaos) are quite expensive and have no way of going through the heavy armour of those kind of armies.
However, against say an Imperial Guard army or a Static Tau (do they still exist? ) I can imagine them causing quite some havoc one in the enemy lines.
If they move as fast as they should, if they get enough attacks, if...
Many ifs but they could work - maybe not as good as other CC-units for the same price, but they could work.
Then again, they do look awesome and can really be used to create a strong theme in an army and that is not something to be ignored either.
On the only occasion I used 3 spawn the surviving two killed a 5 man IG junior platoon HQ then spent 3 turns trying to attack a leman russ on the front armour. The opponent just diddn't bother shooting at them. As long as the tank diddn't move all they could do was scrape the paint off the damn thing.
The old spawn had 2 wounds and a 3+ save and was half the cost and you could move it where you wanted.
