a little of both
i wanted to get a poll going on who uses mech and who uses infantry. i use both but i would like to get some feedback on how your lists do in play.
Chaos W/D/L 48/12/18 almost retired
Orks W/D/L 13/0/0 Still going strong
Space Marins in the making (Salamanders)
With the new dex I really feel that it is important to choose one or the other as doing "a little of both" only makes it that much easier for your opponent to pop those few pieces of armor that you do end up taking.
Either give them a target rich armor environment that forces them to make tough decisions or take the decisions out of their hands by fielding no armor.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I favor mech lists...
IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT!
I survived LO Chat thanks to: Karmoon, Rabbit, Process, Tossy and Meish.
Formerly footslogger gradually accumulating tanks.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
I have become very fond of the idea of using lots of Raptors for core troops duty, and Obliterators and cult troops for fire support. That leaves my vehicles off the board.
I do like the effects that vehicles can bring, but i'm leaning away from it...
"And that, my liege, is how we know the earth to be banana-shaped"
Alpha legion - all infantry.
I tend to do pretty well.
My force tends to be underestimated and the battles are bloody.
I can have problems with mech tau/eldar.. but deepstrike and raptors help a lot.

The downside of using fast units exclusively is that mech is pretty much the only way my troops can keep up with the spearhead, now that infiltrate is gone and heavy weapons in troop squads aren't worth the cost anymore. Lately I've felt like trying something new, though; time to mix up the armylist somehow.

It really depends on the marine choice. When it comes to noise marines, Tzeentch marines, & chosen you can effectively footslog them. However, for everyone else, they really need rhinos in order to reach enemy lines.
I still heavily favor the mech build, but the question was worded in terms of 'player use' and not what is feasible.
Karmoon, I'd be interested to know what you field, since you're still playing a footslogging army. It would be a nice contribution to this thread .
Spambot kill tally. . .337
Goldshologg.. ehhh...Foot slogger all the way...
I'd like a balance so things with vehicles and transports supporting my chosen, but mech should probably be better. Its just that I love chosen so much8X, so I guess its a mix of both for me.
My reason for all infantry (ok, so I have 3 predators...they dont count, they're uh...tank-naughts...yeah)
I take 2 minimum squads of marines to make it legal, a bunch of Raptors and Chosen, kind of harking back to the old 'dex, but pretty effective.
