I'm trying to recover some fluffiness for my word bearers army since the new codex came out. I will use only undivided marines and I'll try to effectively field the generic demons. I want to make a dark apostle to lead them, but I'm not sure what would make the most effective character while still keeping "undivided" (unmarked).
I was thinking of using a sorceror with wings, but without the mark of tzeench I don't think he would be a very powerful HQ. If I make him a terminator lord or sorceror I run into problems getting him into combat. Landraiders are a pretty expensive option, and deepstriking may be a problem in that he has to stand around getting shot for at least one turn with only a 5+ invul save.
Any advice on making a powerful HQ choice without taking a mark? Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure you can make an HQ corresponding to the Dark Apostle without a mark. However, as Caluin has pointed out, players can still come pretty close in 4th edition. I believe this is the HQ:
Chaos Lord- 150 points
(power weapon w/ 4+ inv save & a summoning point, plus a few other tricks)
Spambot kill tally. . .337
With the removal of the specail rules you can only get the 4+ inv save from MoT and the deamagogue (SP) rule is gone.
Other than Rabbits MoT Daemon weapon wielding Lord, The only other suggestion i would have would be to use a undivided lord with daemon weapon, nice and simple.
Im very sure you could orginally use mark sin the original Word Bearers fluff, but, why not use marks for squads o0f trainee dark apostles (acolytes) with say Mark of Khorne to represent there religous fanatasism (I cant spell!).
Any way good look.
im not sure if people would alow this, but its a suggestion that seems quite possible.
to get the 4+ you could give him MoT, and give it a fancy name (mark of the chosen as a quick name of my head) and just have it count as MoT? im really not sure if thats the best way to go, but i cant think of much else for you...
Hey, I feel your pain. I had the perfict Dark Apostle laid out, and they go and change the rules! What I've done is:
Forgotten everything about the old 'dex. Sure the rules were nice, but I'm looking for fluffy, I'm not trying to claw my way back into 3rd edition. So I'm stiking with MoCU because it's fluffy, I'm taking a personal icon, because its fluffy, and I'm using a sorceror (because the never said he wasn't one), the Force Weapon make for a nice replacement of the old Daemon Weapon, and the psy power would be Gift of Chaos, because it's kinda like someoning Deamons... and I can explode my opponenet at the same time. Gift of Chaos makes use of the Spawn, and I like them, I just don't like paying so many points for them!
Hope that helps!
I'd just take the Mark of Tzeentch and count it as his Invuln, use a power weapon, and get some wings. The Carrion wings are something I always thought would look good on an Apostle, the whole 'fallen angel' look. Now beyond that: if you feel tempted by psychic powers, count them as in-battle blessings, Acts of Faith for Chaos, if you will. Warptime and Gift of Chaos seem appropriate to me... in a roundabout way.
Counts as is your friend when trying to justify Legion rules with the new Codex.
