Is it feasable or legit to use regular space marines in a chaos army as "new renegades" or recently recruited to the dark gods? after reading the actual background it seems plausable, just wondering what others thought, and i think it would look interesting to mix it up between csm and regulars.
Well thats fine by me, I just started so any tourneys are well out of the question for now.

Yes. See thread on "Count As Rule"

I'm kind of doing the same thing, I'm taking the space marine vets and converting them to chaos. I've got some modeling chain i'm going to paint up and then glue over the Imperial eagles and I've painted the purity seals to look cracked and broken. Believe me, regular space marine bodies are FAR faster to paint than CSM's, so much less detail.
Yeah I've realised that, I was a bit torn up when I realised how much less detail there is on a space marine compared to my spikey, skull-ridden chaos guys
I think the only thing you'd really have to do is deface the imperial insignia on the space marines.
In the old codex, there was a picture of some Crimson Fist Marines with all their imperial eagles and things X-ed out. They actually looked pretty good.
