My friend is going to start an Eldar light vehicle army. What units work best against such an army? What are good tactics to use against such an army? Thanks
So... most likely a mechanized list. Those lists can be a pain in the ass... especially if you're not that lucky with rolls.
I would say plasma guns, autocannons, meltaguns, and lascannons are your best friends.
Depending on how much he fields you'll need to worry about all those irritating vehicles.
Autocannon havocs can be nice... if you have a little luck on your side to roll 5+. If you're worried about rolling like crap I'd go with 2 las/missle launchers in the squad.
Obliterators are also a nice way to take out those vehicles, either with those lascannons, multi-meltas, or plasma guns. Start them off on turn 1 to shoot their lascannons or use them to deepstrike and pound the vehicles with either the multi-meltas/plasma guns/twin-linked meltas.
2 predators with autocannon/las sponsons could help do the job. Actually when I think of it... depending on how good you and your opponent are, even a dakka pred might work. The only problem is you have to somehow position the predator behind most of his vehicles. This can be a very hard thing to do. However, if you could pull it off you would have a pretty nice chance of taking out his vehicle. Afterward the dakka predator can be used very effectively against infantry.
Other than that I'd say your only options are with termies, chosen, a DP, or Kharn.
With the termies you could deepstrike them near the opponent and unleash combi-plamsa/melta hell onto the vehicles.
The chosen can be outiftted with either 5 plasma guns or 5 meltas ans be right in the guy's face on turn 1.
The DP should have M.o.T. , wings, warptime, and W.o.C. Now with this badboy you can use him to hunt tanks or a lot of his infantry. Nice inv. save, re-roll any failed to hits on his vehicles/infantry/W.o.C. , 2D6 AP , and some nice movement. W.o.C. will let you almost always glance once since you need a 4+ and can re-roll it with warptime. Warptime will also help you to try and hit the vehicles since it allows you to re-roll those. Then once you're done... move onto his troops.
Lastly, a squad of reg. marines or berzerkers with Kharn. Your main problem is going to be hoping your enemy screws up his movement or doesn't notice the danger Kharn can be and places his vehicles too close. He is limited to his movement, but if he gets near that skimmer... it's most likely going down. You'll be able to hit it on a 2+ and get all the other tasty abilities Kharn gets.
Those are pretty much all your options against those pesky vehicles. If you could tell us what vehicles he plans on using and how many, I believe we might be able to narrow down what you should use.
I posted a 2000 point list in the army list section. Could you take a look at it? Thanks.
Your confusing it up. With bad rolls you take Autocannons for the increased volume of shots, and if you roll good, you take Lascannons.
A pred with autocannons/hb's will be your friend but most eldar fast movers have anti-vehicle wepons on them.
A beefy havok squad with 4 autocannons (10man squad) has a pretty solid chance of killing what ever it's aiming at. If (and I do mean if) infantry pop their heads out they will be made very short work of by the same squad. Their lances hurt alot, but killing 1 marine per shot vs those same marines nuking them with 8 potentially fatal shots. The havoks are a safe bet, purely because they are alot more resilient than a pred when it comes to high str fire.
