Well, when I get back to Chaos (or 40k for that matter) I'll be back to the good old Word Bearers. The only problem, which has been seen/ adressed by everyone since the new 'dex came out, is that there is no divisions in the Legions now. Now, I don't really care about the old rules, what I want is a fluffy list. Here are some of my ideas for a themed Word Bearers list:
Army basics: nothing but mark of chaos undevided... period!
Dark Apostle: Sorceror w/ gift of chaos
I think that a Force Weapon will represent a Cursed Crozius quite nicely. While Gift of Chaos represents the deamons that follow the Legion deciding that the enemy would be a good target to possess as well! Gift of Chaos will also give me a good excuse to buy a couple of Chaos Spawn...
I know people aren't big on there effectiveness/consistency, but it did say that Word Bearers have a greater number of possessed when compared to other Legions, and the models are sweet
Lots of Chaos Space Marines w/ Mark of Chaos Undevided (or current equivelent)
The mainstay of a Word Bearer force: undevided troops. I'm also considering going with a mechanised theme... but we will have to see about that.
Lesser Daemons - Until Codex Daemons comes out...
I will be fielding as many of these bad boys as I currently own (2 squads of 7 and 2 squads of 5 for a grand total of 24 Daemons). There effectives may equal nothing, but in the words of a poster I once saw: "Thats a whole lot of nothing!" If anything else, I will use them in true Word Bearer pose: as bullet catchers.
So what do you guys think? Any other units that fit the Word Bearer theme effectively (and just because they weren't mentioned here doesn't mean I won't field them). This isn't supposed to be a list, or even competative, at this point, and is mainly aimed to follow Word Bearer fluff.
if you want some good fluff for the bearers of the true word of lorgar, try the book Dark Apostle, iv just read it, its quite good.
PROUD TO BE IN THE BRITISH ARMY.
~~ Surrender and serve me in life, or die and slave for me in death~~
As said above, Dark Apostle is a pretty cool book. There have been debates about its literary merit. But I imagine any Chaos player, especially of the word bearing kind would enjoy reading it.
You definitely get some props from me for trying to stick to fluffy stuff. As for the dark apostle, I don't see why an Undivided Daemon Weapon would be unfluffy. If anything I'd say it's a perfect fit, the extra strength representing the power/faith of the Dark Crozius.
You may have to go mechanized. I worry about you foot slogging it because with a lot of your points in the daemons, your enemy will have less to shoot at can concentrate on your CSM. If you decide to walk it, consider taking a Sorcerer with Lash of Submission to help you out some. Among other things, it can really help your Possessed get into combat within two turns or so.
Glad to have you back. ;Y It's been a while.
"If you can wait til I get home, then I swear we can make this last."
Personally, I'd use Counts As on your Lord with a Mark of Tzeentch and a power weapon (or anything else) to represent the Accursed Crozius rules... then again a DW of Tzeentch wouldn't work too well as a Crozius. I'd stick with the power weapon and MoT to get the full effect of his weapon and equipment. But whatever you want to do.
Thanks for the responses guys, I'll give you my ideas in response:This definatly looks like a promising book. However, I have some other Black Library books to work through before I get to this one (Gaunts Ghosts, on book 3 of the 6 I own, and the Horus Heresy, on book 2 of the 3 I own).Originally Posted by BrotherAzrielI was thinking of the Chaos Lord with Daemon Weapon, but it didn't really appeal to me (completly rules wise). Also, with the ability to turn opponents into quasi-daemons, I thought a Gift of Chaosing Sorceror would be a good fit, however I will look into the situation again.Originally Posted by hotspike18
I have always wanted to field a mech force... so this may finaly be my chance (since I have a lot of marines already I don't have to worry so much about cost). Should I just equip the rhinos with EA and smoke or should I be looking into the new Daemonic Possession *wink wink-nudge nudge*Sorry Imperialis I'm going to have to disagree. I'm not sure where the idea that Dark Apostles have a improved invuln save came from, but I'm not really interested in emulating the 3rd ed rules. I understand where you're comming from, but it's just not the direction I want to go.Originally Posted by Imperialis_Dominatus
Sorry about the above post, now I see exactly where your comming from, but I'm still going to stick with an all undivided list. Simply because I already have an invuln, and because I think Undevided Word Bearers is generally more fluffy than haveing one 'exact' model.
Any other suggestions on Word Bearer fluffy units/ combos greatly appreciated!
Fluffwise the generic greater demon and/or demon prince would fit the theme as well...
