I have a nurgle army that I have been playing with, but I can't seem to pull off a win. Mind you that I play with friends mostly, but I am interested in going to a tournament soon and I would like to be competitive. I have just been playing with the models that I have, but I am ready to expand and I just dont know what to do to make a serviceable Nurgle army anymore. Here's a list of my minis. Any advice to make the army more competitive would be appreciated
- Nurgle Deamon Prince (No wings...yet)
- Nurgle Termie Sorcerer
- 7 Nurgle Termies, 2 melta, 2 chainfist, 1 autocannon or hvy flamer
- Plague Marine squad, 2 melta, pwr fist
- Plague Marine squad, 2 plas, pwr wpn
- Defiler 4 x DCCW
- Land Raider
- Great Unclean One
- 14 Plague Bearers
- 5 Nurgling bases
- 2 x Homemade spawn (for GoC when I use it)
I did very well with this army with the last codex, but I cant seem to make it work with the new one.

Deamons are not that great in the new edition, and without having some chosen the greater deamon is not all that great either. It's also too bad that spawn are terrible now. The biggest problem is you are so troop light. I would probably field 4 squads of 7, and if you want to play with the GD then you need a squad of chosen to go along with it.
My 1850 black legion list has the following for troops:
2 squads of 7 plague marines w/ 2 melta in one and 2 plasma in the other.
2 squads of 10 chaos marines w/ heavy weapon (you would sub for two more squads of 7)
1 squad of 10 raptors w/ 2 meltas (sub for 220 pts of terminators)
1 squad of 5 noise marines with sonic blasters (maybe rhinos for all squads)
flying deamon prince
mounted lord on steed (sub for typhus)
In 1500 I would ditch the lord and the defiler and maybe have to take out one obliterator. But I would keep the same number of troops.
That's a ton of models so you definitely need to work on getting more squads, and some sort of mobility. In the last edition you couldn't get any mobility, now you can get marked raptors, bikes, and tons of other stuff that can make you a lot more mobile.
Even though Oblits are not marked they would make great looking nurgle models when painted with a nurgle color scheme, so I think they would still have a great look on the table and fit in fine with the rest of your force.
Also I think you need two princes with wings to be competitive in tournaments with chaos, but that just comes from reading other lists and not direct experience.

You are close to a 3-Monstrous-Creature list. Could you proxy one of those spawn as a second Prince and see if that works for you?
You need more troops. Its looks like, in the last Codex, you used Nurgle daemons to bump up your numbers. They probably need to go on the shelf until the Daemon Codex, since I assume you tried using them as lesser Daemons. A third squad of Plague Marines would really help.
Where I would take this list: (I don't have my Codex with me; I might post point costs later)
2 Daemon Princes with Wings
3 Plague Marine squads (with Rhinos if you have them)
Termies if any points are left.
If this is overbudget your could drop the Land Raider for Obliterators if they're available.
The idea is the Plague Marines do their thing, with the Land Raider as an emergency transport as well as a gun platform. The Defiler tag-teams with the Princes to distract the approach of your other units. With a little practice and 'Nurglesque' endurance, by the time your enemies handle all your big units your Marines will be waving hello from the objective.

This actually isn't too far off from what I have going right now. I won't get into points and all the details here, but just the basics:
2x 7 Plague Marines (AC w/fist) w/Melta x2 in Rhinos
7 Plague Marines (AC w/fist) w/Plasma x2
5 Termies w/Combi-Melta x2, Chainfist x2, Autocannon
14 Lesser Daemons
I throw my PMs at my opponent first thing, and let them soak damage while the Defilers come walking up with plates flying. The HQs and the third unit of PMs footslog in and cover the rear for any infiltrators or DSing units. Termies and Daemons eventually DS in for support where needed.
It is a slower list, and I still need to work on my tactics a bit, but it's tough, and can take a lot of punishment, which is nice.
For what you've got, it might not be a bad idea to put Typhus and the melta unit in the Landraider, and scoot them around to hit a vehicle or two. The rest of your list can footslog to cover the Defiler. I go along with everyone else and recommend at least a third unit of troops, though. Another plasma squad would do ya good.
From what you've got you could make a competitive list without too much work. First off, points wise if you are playing 1500 go with a single HQ, 1750+ you can do 2 (IMHO).
I would make something like this:
Prince w/ Wings, Warptime
Elite: 5 Nurgle termis, 4 Combi-weapons, Heavy Flamer, Chainfist, Land Raider w/ Possession
10 Plague Marines, Champ w/ Fist, 2 Plasmas, Rhino, Icon
10 Plague Marines, Champ w/ Fist, 2 Meltas, Rhino, Icon
10 Lesser Daemons
That should be pretty close to 1500. You would have good strong troop options, mobility, decent anti-tank, good horde control. The only drawback is that you have only 6 scoring units. You could make the Raider a heavy choice and use it as a transport and then have 7 I guess. Anyway, just some thoughts, use them as you see fit. Good luck!
P.S. - I have a similar list, minus the Raider and termis but with Obliterators a Pred and a third Plague Squad that is very competitive.
I find the best way to win with deathguard is to stick as many squads of plague marines in as I can. I use 5 squads of seven in 1500 point games. Each has a champ with powerfist and 2 special weapons (2 melta squads and 3 plasma squads). I also ad a Plasma dread, AC/2LC pred and a prince with MoN.
It is a foot slogging army but with 35 T5 FNP infantry it can survive appaling amounts of fire. I sometimes mechanise the force with 4 squads in rhinos and add and obliterator and doombolt for the HQ.
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
LOL I like the title of this thread, made me think of the Relationship Wanted sections. "Aimless Slannesh lover looking for crazy and wild relations with a Khorne wild man."
Anyways, I'd drop typhus and the landraider and leave them for 2000+ games. In response put in more squads! Take some Chosen with 4 plasmas in a squad of ten and fill out all squads to ten and take one or two more squads. You'd be surprise how much more marines can do for any army. ALSO drop the deamons, except maybe the Greater. No need for nurglings or Bearers until u get the new daemons codex. With those additional points, maybe throw back in the land raider.
