Hello all. So at my local gaming store we have a lot of CSM players, in fact almost half of the people there play CSM. Anyway there is one particular veteran player who frequently abused rules in the old 'dex and has now started abusing "Warp Time" in the new codex. When I pointed out that it says in the rule book "you can not re-roll re-rolls" he insists loudly that he can because its a new codex and then goes on to say that if thats true then Chain ax's still have the 4+ save rule (which he insists on still using!) because they are mentioned in the core rule book as doing so. I avoid playing him most of the time for reasons like this but it still bothers me and I am positive that he is wrong and that his arguments would never hold water at a tournament. But is there anywhere in the codex or rule book that refutes these claims?
Thanks for the input:happy:
Sounds like this guy is contradicting himself. He says he can ignore the core rules cause they are older to use warptime illegally, and then says the core rules take precedents over the new rules to give him crazy chain axes. The least you could do is point this out and limit the ways he can cheat. Is he going to say that codex takes precedents or that the core does, he can't have it both ways.
As for Warptime, it does not read that you may re-roll every attack and wound until successful it simply states you may re-roll attacks, re-rolls are explicitly defined in the BGB on page 5.
Something tells me these explanations wont satisfy him so simply do what the rest of us do with these rule abusers, simply dont play them. I myself have over the years aquired several t-shirts which openly mock these abusers.
So, what? He just keeps re-rolling the rolls till they all hit/wound? What in the world?
It sounds like you've shown him the rules, and he's just being an arse/idiot about it. It's always best to be instructive, so keep trying to set him straight until you just get too sick of trying--then give up and tell him that you refuse to play him until he stops cheating.
Once again, the conservative, sandwich-heavy portfolio pays off for the hungry investor!
How old is this "guy?" If it's just a kid, cut some slack and politely tell him re-rolling a re-roll is retarded.
he's like 35 and has been playing since at least 3rd edition haha. Thanks for the input, I checked the codex and I think I got his argument beat. This guy is my least favorite opponent who makes cheesy illegal lists and is frankly a total ass to play against. Outside of the game he can be an ok guy but play a game of 40k with him and... man you wanna throw terrain at him haha.
Thanks again for the advice.
I have a friend who dos that all of the time. Just stay calm and one day he will realise that wht he is doing is wrong. And he will realise that he isn't making any progress. Once he re reads the rules about 8-10 times he should finally understand. If not then just have everyone ignore him until he listens 8Y.
Check the codex entry in the Chaos codex, I think it says you can only re-roll things once, if not there, then I am pretty sure I've read it somewhere. Why would they give you Warp Time if you could keep re-rolling until you got a wound or hit? Wouldn't be easier to just say that allthe attacks hit and wound?
"If you can wait til I get home, then I swear we can make this last."
in reference to the terrain throwing, try a bassilica administratum, nice corners and sharp edges, lol, im jokeing btw.
PROUD TO BE IN THE BRITISH ARMY.

haha city terrain as a weapon... lol. I have an old metal Empire giant that I've always said you could commit vandalism with haha.
Thanks for all the input too btw. I checked the CSM 'dex and it does say that they count as close combat weapons and to see the WH40k rule book for the rules. So now he can abide by the no re-rolls too! lol
