I was thinking about making up a squad of assault termies with LC's. Then I noticed that LC's cost an extra 10 pts per model. Compared to a squad of termies with combi plasmas and PW's for 5 pts cheaper, this does not seem like a very good deal at all. Am I missing something?
AND you get another attack for being armed with 2 ccws
And hey, if you really want to blow the points, you can make them all champs, give them MoK, LCs and then they ALL get 6 attacks on the charge, with rerolls. Throw that in a Land Raider...
Why can't we all just hate each other equally?
The trouble with CC based termi squads is getting them into CC before they are shot up and to do this their is really only one option, the Landraider. Sure, you could deep strike them but seeing as how they cannot charge on the turn that they deep strike you are most likely going to take a few casualties before you even get to combat.
That being said, I do not think that lightning claws on termis is very cost effective. Your best bet is to give them combi plasmas and deep strike them. That way they at least have a chance of making their points back before your opponent has a chance to knock them out and they are relatively cheap.
5x termis, 4x combi plas, 1x heavy flamer + chain fist
The heavy flamer works very well in conjunction with precision deep strikes and the chain fist is to ensure that you don't get bogged down in combat with dreads / wraithlords or the like.
IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT!
I survived LO Chat thanks to: Karmoon, Rabbit, Process, Tossy and Meish.
4x termis, 3x combi-plasmas, 1x heavy flamer + power fist
These sorts of d.s. shock squads are often underestimated by most opponents, who look at the squad's small size and believe it is manageable (which it is, but not in conjunction with another one of your units). Such high amounts of 'first strike' plasma fire statistically makes does better against most enemy units when compared to the longer durability of lightning claws. AND, as Ironangel said, getting termis into c.c. can be a problem- one that your opponent nearly always makes for you.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
I use one Terminator in each squad with a pair of LCs, and they work very well. More than LCs, I'd strongly recommend a Chain Fist, to deal with high Toughness opponents, and trash vehicles.
I only like the Daemon Weapon for unmarked Lords, and therefore have re-modelled al my other Lords with a Pair of LCs. Basic Strength sucks for Lords, and the re-rolls given by the Claws do help.
I think LCs can give a good cc-edge to termies, but you need to use them wisely. I personally like Lord Ramons idea, it gives a nice cc-punch to a squad of termies (I use a similar system with my Deathwing Termies). Combine LCs and power/chain fists in a squad, throw it in a LR and you have a very nasty unit, but only really justifiable points-wise in larger games.
Hive Fleet Fuzzy Bunny: Lots and lots of points of Nids (4000pts+)
The Chapter of the Damned: 5500pts of Dark Angels
The Children of Fulgrim: 5-6000pts of Emperors Children
The Kabal of the Bloodied Claw: 2000pts of Dark Eldar
i love my 10 termies unit deepstriking to an icon where they're needed.
i equip them as follows: 7 just combi plasma, 2 reaper autocannon and chainfist, champ with lc and icon of slaanesh.
i deepstrike them and wipe a whole squad nearby with plasma and reapers. then i proceed to run where i like killing stuff, cause there shouldn't really be enough around them to shoot em all and removing the combi weapon bearers is not so damaging to the unit as a whole (since those are mere regular bolters now). when something charges it usually gets minced by many i5 power weapon attacks. and i still got the power fists for reserve then.
ok noone will underestimate this unit but they almost make their points back by their first shooting phase and then the opponent will try everything to get rid of them and termies can really soak up some serious firepower. so the important ones will likely survive, keeping terrorizing the enemy.
so last but not least back to topic: i think a whole unit full of lcs is a wast of the variety of our termies. i love mixing them up as you might have noticed and i think one or two lc champs really ad some cc punch which always comes in handy without crippling their versatility.
