Ok, here's a few ideas I've had and I know the first one's been discussed before.
1) 3 Terminators - 125
Reaper Autocannon, Power Fist
This squad sits around with your other heavy support choices - havocs/obliterators and provides a little added firepower and counter-charge capability.
2) 3 Terminators - 105
This squad deep strikes, hits a tough vehicle hard and draws fire from your opponent for a round.
3) 3 Terminators - 105
2 Combi-Plasma, Heavy Flamer
This squad deep strikes and hits entrenched enemy infantry. You could also go with combi-flamers or good old twin-linked bolters for light infantry. Or combine the two above squads for some versatile deepstriking anti-infantry/anti-tank.
4) 3 Terminators - 90
This squad is a generic, deepstriking, objective grabbing unit that exists entirely to contest table quarters by deepstriking into some remote piece of cover and staying there. Not the best strategy, but could be annoying by forcing your opponent to go chase them down.
Anybody have any other ideas?
I can see the unit paying off big in some cases, but I think I'd rather something more reliable.
Actually, I'd almost rather just skipping combi-weapons and going with just the Heavy Flamer. Template weapons get considerably worse after the first shot in a round, due to casualties being removed before resolving the next template.
Just my thoughts on the ones offered up already. I much prefer 4 man units, for the extra scoring wound, but that's just personal taste.
Cal pretty much hit it right on the head there though of the setups I do feel that the second is the best. Bascially what it comes down to is that I see no reason not to include the 4th terminator in the squad. On average you will pay around 150 pts for a squad that size and have amazing firepower coming out of them through the use of combi plasma and heavy flamers.
With the use of terminators I have never found myself in a position where I wanted less of them on the board. Four is really the best number imo, it keeps them cheap and if needs be, expendable.

Well, one thing i don't like about template weapons and deep strike, is the dangerous aspect of deep striking close to the enemy. For a template weapon to really shine, it would be nice for it to be about 3-4 inches away, thats risky business while deep striking. Probably a worthwile risk with a heavy flamer, but I can't see that as worth the risk with combi flamers. The nice thing about other weapons, such as combi plasma, is that if you scatter poorly and live, you can still shoot a long range shot, if your confident your models will be dead in the next turn.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
These days I play with small Terminators squad frequently and I love them. I usually field them in units of 4 as I found out that 3 tend to die too quickly, especially since they are summoned near the enemy and in plain line of sight so they can shot when they appear. I have 3 different squad that have 3 different role.
The first one is the redemptor squad who purge the weak with fire:
- Heavy Flamer; Power Weapon
- Combi-Flamer; Chain Fist
- Combi-Flamer; Power Weapon X2
The second one is the thermo squad who annhiliate with melta fire:
- Reaper Autocannon; Power Weapon
- Combi-Melta; Chain Fist
- Combi-Melta; Power Weapon X 2
The third one is the assault squad who kill the heretics up close and personal
- Reaper Autocannon; Chain Fist
- Combi-Bolter; Lightning Claw
- Combi-Bolter; Power Fist X 2
So far they are doing what I intend them to do, they are quite good even deployed on the field at the start of the game and I deep strike them through Icons so it's quite precise. My favorite by far is the Heavy Flamer squad, it is devastating when it appears in front of Eldars, Humans, Tyranids and Tau... even Space Marines and other Chaos units tend to suffer from their template. Yes they die almost everytime but they absorb so much fire while doing so that it's worth it. I like to put them beside a squad of 6 Lesser Daemons for some added punch.
But yeah small units of Terminators are quite potent and they are quite resistant. In support of regular troops and summoned through Icons they are quite safe and they appear where needed the most. This improvement over the normal deep striking rules is really nice and it is what made me use the Terminators more often.
