How do the 1k sons replenish their ranks? The other legions can always get more marines like it says in the codex, but what about the 1k sons, do they create more marines ( talking about the rubric signers). Just curious.

I don't think they can. But i think theres enough of em to last for a pretty long time.

They just have to collect the armour and fix it again. Basically they have less problems than other legions, because their normal marines don't really die. Different to those of other legions (who can recruit only with Bile's help) as long as they win the battle or can access the battlefield after it almost all their losses can be replaced just by repairing the armour. That's a rather simple task compared to growing a completely new marine, which they simply do not have to do.

but if the armour was destroyed, wouldn't the spirit escape, making the armour useless?

Well, not very hard to find new spirits on a battle-field. Lots of guardsmen and the like with fresh souls that can be stolen and trapped

I dont think you can put in just any old spirit. i would think that because the rubric of ahriman only sealed the thousand sons into their armour, one would asume that only thousand sons can be put back in. Not to mention they were sealed in while they were in their armour (does it ever come off?), and putting a soul back into a suit of half blown up armour, even if it had been repaired, would be a most difficult thing. Imangine trying to get helium into a taped together blender while its running on full power. I rest my case.

It seems that the spirit is permanently bound to the armour, otherwise it coukld escape even through a small hole in e.g. the arm of the suit, which would make TS the most fragile marines instead of the toughest (as such a insigificant wound wouldn't incapacitate a normal marine).

But how is it that that TS would repair the armour? Even if they used their physic awsomeness, i dont think they would have the technological knowhow to fix it (which piece goes where?). ONly the Adeptus Mechanicus really knows how the power armour works (I think).

Marine chapters are well able to repair most damaged power armour, they just can't produce new suits.

These are the greatest Sorcerors in the galaxy we`re on about. I doubt they have any problems with their troop count. Like Astaroth said they can probably repair the armour of their fallen-the suits have to completely obliterated before the spirit is released.
Also, maybe they can re-cast the Rubric but on a smaller scale. Say for a a single battalion of troops. Or for enemy troops they`ve taken alive and slapped into a 'Sons suit.
BTW, I wouldn`t think of it like keeping air in a party balloon. Its not like a spirit is gonna squeeze out through a small space. Its one with the suit, NOT the air inside it.
