Ok, I've been browsing the army lists and have come to the sorry conclusion that most of what makes Chaos good is exactly what makes pansy Space Marines good...Min/Maxing 10-man squads in Rhinos and Preds with Lascannon side sponsons. The only thing I see as a problem is that they can do these things better...more variety with vehicles and configurations. I WANT CHAOS!!!!
Mission: what makes chaos different and how can we bring the pain by being EVIL?! After all, this is about being more bad-ass, right? Let's do it!
My first suggestion is to take advantage of some of the other Icons we can get. Most of what I see is 10-man IoCG squads. Let's do something different! Use those defilers! use those Oblits! I guess vindies with Demonic Possession is good, too, because loyalists can't do that. Anyway, rant over, shoot me some ideas as I'm actually going to expand my humble 500 point army.
Well, you could max out Obliterators. 3 squads of 3. And take 3 landraiders w/ the Terminator squads. Go for Lash of submission. Since coming of the new codex I hear nothing but "evil" things about it. Best to field 2 winged Daemonprinces with Lash. I think a 5 man Plasmagun Chaos chosen squad which infiltrates might be quite... icky.
I mean, Daemon princes w/ Lash are Chaos. Marines do not have an Obliterator equilvalent. They might end up taking just as much landraiders w/ Termie squads though. Slap on an Icon of Nurgle and there's T5 2+ save monsters.
Taking Daemons en masse... is maybe quite nice. I mean, a little 10 man squad doesn't do a thing, but say you'd field 6 of those squads. Give your bikers an Icon and turboboost forward. And... while you're at it, summon a greater daemon upon the Biker champ to launch his inner daemon aprox. 36 inches into assault. (given of course the reserves roll succeeds; 24" turboboost, reserve roll, Daemon comes in, 6" move, 6" assault") Hand em Icon of Tzeentch to make a nifty 2+ survivable Bikersquad.
That's the first thing I can come up with given that I'm awake for about 15 minutes.
Other good choice are defilers, combi terminators, chosen....... well yeah, there are lots of good choices! Im pretty sure most people use them too.
Man you guys put so much work into this stuff, I just get everything I can to shoot at whatever is coming!
But I hate those space marines for a few reasons.
2)boring models (when compared to the glory of chaos)
4)they are space marines
I think they need a spell to turn one or two men from a squad against eachother. It would be interesting, and can't be to overpowered. I'd love to see it and it fits in with chaos.
"whisper of the gods" or something, get to it guys!
It exists, rogue psykers get the power. I think it is called "puppet dance" or something. The targeted unit makes a round of close combat attacks on itself. It is very powerful, but I think you can only use a rogue psyker if you are playing against Witch Hunters.
Personally I think the variety each traitor legion brings is what makes Chaos more interesting.
I have a World Eaters army, which looks and performs very much diferently from a friends Death Guard army etc etc. Aside from say White Scars, Dark Angels and Blood Angels, the other loyalists are very similar.
Even with the more generic new codex making a truely dispicable looking chaos force is easy, and will be even more so with the Daemon codex when it comes out.
