Is this too mixed in terms of weapons effectiveness. Im tweaking my Slaanesh list and I had some extra points to upgrade my dakka preds to be more effective at large targets. I have two of em, so I could probably go back down to dakka preds and use the points to make one chaos marine squad a raptor squad instead.
Anyway, back on subject is a havoc launcher too out of place here or will it give me a decent return on the extra points spent?
well, there are 2 ways to look at that configuration.
#1 very versitile able to handle anything- capable of taking out large tanks sometimes, skimmers often, troops often.
#2 too versitile and wasting points- if you shoot at a large tank/skimmer havoc launcher upgrade is wasted, if you shoot at hordes of troops the lascannon upgrade is wasted.
I'm more in line with #2, however depending on the rest of your build you may be able to justify the #1 argument.
I agree with this. It's always good to give your units a purpose. This is particularly true with vehicles - don't spend any unnecessary points on a vehicle which can be killed by one lucky shot. Make sure all their weapons are going to be useful. In this case, lascannons are anti-vehicle, so no havoc launcher. Havoc launchers should go with dakka preds.#2 too versitile and wasting points- if you shoot at a large tank/skimmer havoc launcher upgrade is wasted, if you shoot at hordes of troops the lascannon upgrade is wasted.
Im willing to go with # 1. Its not a lot of points and it'll add some versatility.
Well think of it this way, its either 2 plasma rifles, three melta guns, or 2 havoc launchers. The 2 former on tac squads. Considering I fully expect my tac squads to see combat, havoc launchers seem like a better choise.
Edit: Also, I wont always have big, tough targets to plink at. I'm adding like.. 11.5% of the total cost for it. I've been doing a lot of talking tho I wanna hear a few opinions.

I would like to see your army's composition. If you've got some chosen, then you should definately add some more plasma in there. Also the basic CSM squad in rhino is the best there is. Add a few meltas and you got some really good punch - especially if you're sure that they will see combat. The melta only works up close, so it's the given weapon. To add one more dimension to the whole is that a few meltas in a squad makes it more dangerous, thus maybe taking some heat away from the predator. My advice is that you equip your CSMs better to add more threat to the enemy. That will be more effective as the CSM is more versatile than the pred.

Dakka Preds are the best... i would use the extra points on the squads or new squads
