Somewhere between the above two.
K so whats your opinion
some say its easier to use
some say its taken the Gods out of Chaos
Some say its far worse
so what do you think?
I personnally dislike the changes as I was a fan of the Old Dex and I think they have taken the Gods out of chaos.
Seriously while there are some things that I dont think they should have changed, the good far outweighs the bad.
Chaos is now competitive, rather than being all theme. A few builds in the old 'Dex held up like Iron warriors but now whatever direction us chaos players take we can actually compete with our armies..
BTW there is a rumour of a Legion codex in a few years for all the god orientated chaos marines. According to Jervis this one was meant to focus more on the "renegade" marines... So there is still hope for my alpha legion yet.....

What once was courage has now cursed in the wars we've made.
We are the sinners, before our graves.
I think the codex is rubbish as they got rid of all those cool upgrades for the lords. I think the best part of making an army is making it unique and with so few upgrades, there's really only 2-3 good builds while the old codex had so many different playing styles and items that no two armies had similar units.
Sorry - not enough choices in your poll. In general it's good. Not great, but the good outweighs the bad by a large margin. I would still like to see cults as well as specific Daemons... But I guess that's for another codex or two. Or three...
I agree with some of the others, I feel that it's somewhere in between those two options.

Every sensible player could see the new codex coming from a mile away, the previous codex was a lot of fun yes but it was abused through the roof by people who cared only for kicking players into the dirt.
This codex is easy to use, easy to make a list and far less abusable, I have really only 1 main problem with the codex and that is that is was rushed, GW should have released later and done more right to the legions as that is the main point people want back.
Most polls on the web also show more people playing with a traitor legion that a renegade chapter.
It was abused, yes, but only by a couple specific lists--daemonbombs and Iron Warriors, specifically. It hardly mades sense to punish all Chaos players for the sins of the powergamers, many of whom simply traded in their Chaos lists and bought 3 Eldar Falcons.
The revision was horrible from every point of view except gameplay. The Horus Heresy is gone, the conversion potential is gone, Legions are gone. My Night Lords play like Ultramarines, only without the assault cannons, and I'm forced to either play unfluffy or be punished for playing a Legion.I really, really doubt it. First off, GW has said they wanted to 'free Chaos from Legion restrictions' (based on an interview with Gav Thorpe, if I remember right); second, they said they didn't want to do a complicated Chaos Codex again, which defeats the purpose of doing two books that work together. If they were going to augment the current Dex then surely the upcoming Daemon Codex would be compatible with it...rumors say no. Lastly, I think GW's goal right now is to use the current system to sell models and they don't want to risk sales by trying to advance the fluff, so I don't see an additional Chaos Marine Codex in the future.BTW there is a rumour of a Legion codex in a few years for all the god orientated chaos marines. According to Jervis this one was meant to focus more on the "renegade" marines... So there is still hope for my alpha legion yet.....

Now I've only been playing Chaos, and Warhammer, for about 3 months now, and as a new player I can say that the Dex is really simple to use and understand. But like other people say I wish the cults had some extra stuff to them, and all the champs are way too generic.
I find my squads to be very competitive so I really can't complain.

I like the new 'Dex. *dodges tomato* After all, many of the changes had extreme precedent (BA, DA, Eldar); the loss of the armory and sub-lists was unfortunate but... umm... if Ulthwe and Iyanden don't get sub-lists and none of the 5ht ed. Codices get Armories, who is Chaos to expect it?
As for fluff and variety, if you don't feel you can find it in the rules, there's always good old-fashioned modeling, painting, and fluff to make your army unique.
And I can think of ways to represent most of the Legions fairly well in the new Codex. Granted, the loss of Cult Terminators and all sundry was a loss, but there would have had to be a dozen other unit entries in the book to accomodate that and GW is moving towards less.
There are unfluffy combinations that can be abused for power- but those kinds of people who make those kinds of armies will exist as long as wargaming is around. It's a sad fact, to be true, and perhaps GW is putting too much responsibility in the hands of the players, but I think I can handle it. And if the Chaos player across from me refuses to play with a decent, fluffy army... he's in Chaos for all the wrong reasons.
That's my opinion, may differ from your own.
