Now that I'm re-entering the world of Chaos, I need some help in deciding the best way to go about making my army. Basically, I wanted to know If Plague Marines should be armed with CC weapons, or just Bolters? Also, since I already have most of the models, I was thinking of running a 1/2 Nurgle, 1/2 Khorne list. My question here is which models should be going with rhinos, if any. And finally, I'm having a hard time understanding the whole marines with icons of chaos vs. marines with marks of chaos.
So, if I could get some input on those Ideas/ questions, that would be great. Along with any other random pointers about running a chaos army with the new codex. Thanks!
Well since you have the khorne idea already maybe go with bolters for nurgle with 2 plasma (they seem very popular) to lay into the enemy just before the khorne erupt in the front lines, I also like nurgle for CC because of their high toughness orks don't wound as often as they'd like to which is a huge bonus.
Well, for starters, Plague Marines get both bolters, and bp/ccw. Berzerkers only get bp/ccws.
If you're only going to give rhinos to some of the squads, give them to the Berzerkers. The Plague Marines have better fire power and are tougher - therefore they are better for foot-slogging. The Berzerkers need to get into close-combat as soon as they can, so they need the higher speed.
Finally, if you give a squad of basic CSMs a Chaos Icon, they gain the benefits listed on page 81. For info on what the marks do, see page 25. I think the key point here is as long as the Icon Bearer remains, the squad gets the benefits of the Icon, as soon as the Icon Bearer dies, they lose said benefits. Marked units, what are commonly called Cult troops and have the Marks listed as part of their special rules/options always have the benefits of the mark.
At their new reduced points value a Rhino is a useful piece of kit. I would go so far as to say that they may even be more useful than say a pair of lightning claws on a Lord. I think the previous post is right, you should go mobile with your Khornate squads. They don't have to ride in their transports and they can provide very useful cover for your advance. More importantly vehicles can be use to block routes for your opponents army. By placing you Rhinos within say 3 or 4 Inches of each other you can create a wall that cannot be crossed by enemy infantry or vehicles. This can be really useful if you are trying to nail a fast moving army and deliver your own assault troops at the same time...
Ok that all sounds good, and kind of along the lines of what I was thinking. So if I had to choose 2 HQ for the army, one Nurgle, the other Khorne, what would two good options be?
What I had in mind was maybe Kharn going in with one of my squads of Berzerkers, and then having a terminator lord go in with a squad of Plague Marines. Daemon Princes are good, too, but they seem to get kind of expensive for how good they actually are.
*Side Note: I was planning on having a Champion for a squad of Berzerkers and another for a squad of Plague Marines. And, in terms of their weapons, I would put a power fist on the Nurgle champion, and then a power sword on the Khorne Champion, only because Berzerkers get a +1 initiative, and I don't wanna ruin that with a power fist, unless someone thinks otherwise?
Once again, thanks all for the help
Hi, I like the suggestions so far and agree with all of them, Just a quick Idea, why not mount all your squads in rhino's? Then its harder for the rhinos all to die, and the squads will all get there quicker. I think kharn is good but be careful with him, I don't really like him but he's good. Instead of a nurgle HQ a slaneesh one is awsome with a lash allowing you to repostion units. I do disagree with you on deamon princes, the deamon prince with wings is very good, and absorbes a lot of fire while dealing out damage in CC. With the list I'd like to see two squads of each troop and the HQ's, although this will take you up to about a 1250pts. THis will only leave enough for some preds for AT for a 1500pts list. I agree with your weapon choices on the squads entirley and I hope my suggestions for developing the list was useful,
P.s if you can squeze some raptors and termies in there do 'cause there really good!!
