All Hail the Powerfist in its magnificent (chevroned) glory
Down with the Powerfist
So Ive been thinking about this for some time, Powerfists are the weapon of choice for nearly all of our champions, how effective will they be on our Lords? We loose the inititve and are at risk from the IC status, but we can deal out a massive amount of high strength high weapon skill attacks. Couple a powerfist with either MoT or MoN and the option becomes more tempting.
I personally think its too risky, faced with orks or marines, they will strike first and you are putting at least 115 points into one figure that may be wiped out before his turn even arrives.
For me its too much, I prefer lightning claws or a regular power weapon to ignore heavy armour at the very least, I like my lords cheap.
I've been filling up my soldiers with meltas lately, they are beastly, sure they don't have great range but they pierce everything, so vs MEQ they are perfect, even for terms, and will instantly kill most units on top of that.
PLUS take out tanks? whats not to love.
If we could make a cheap leutenant with a fist as per the old dex, then maybe...and only maybe...
In the new dex, its just too much of a point investment to risk on I1 attacks....
What once was courage has now cursed in the wars we've made.
We are the sinners, before our graves.
Such a Lord would be a major liability in CC. More often than not he'd only get one round of CC attacks off before the enemy's powerfist crushes him...maybe not even that much if the enemy is lucky. Not worth the risk; powerfists are for squad champions.

If you put that first on a Lord what are you getting out of it? Sure you have a higher chance of popping vehicles. Yes you can instant kill mech armor units. However, you are throwing away that nice initiative AND in the long run allowing your lord to die a lot easier since he will be striking last.
Lords are meant to be infantry killers. They do their job so much better in that situation, especially with a P.Wpn. or D.Wpn.
If you really want something to take on both infantry and tanks, you should look at a DP with the following: Wings, MoT, Warptime, Wind of Chaos.
I'm attracted to the 6WS, 5 power fist attacks on the charge, which is just darn tempting. Still, on the table, it's too risky for my black blood. That 1I just scares away any thought of it consistently being good.
:ninja2::ninja2::ninja2: (just using the new icons. As the old saying goes...that I just made up, "Three ninjas are better than one.")
Spambot kill tally. . .337
It seems like a good idea, but if you are up against powerfist wielding units, it may not be the best idea then.
I would never put them on a Chaos Lord. as it wastes his high Initiative and leaves him vulnerable to enemy powerfist attacks.
