Using the Land Raider in 5th edition

I placed this thread here as I dont want to discuss the rumours in itself, but the tactical use of our vehicles should the rumours be correct. I've found a pre-release 5th ed. rulebook pdf today, in which I could read the following two rules:

    1.
The 5th edition vehicle rules states that a glancing hit reduces 2 from the vehicle damage chart which looks like this:

    1. Stunned
    2. Shaken.
    3. Damaged - Weapon destroyed, no weapons result in Immobilised
    4. Damaged - Immobilised
    5. Destroyed - Wrecked
    6. Destroyed - Explodes

    Modifiers to the chart:
    Glancing hit -2
    Hit by ‘AP–‘ weapon -1
    Hit by ‘AP1’ weapon +1
    Target is Open-topped +1

If the vehicle suffers a Damaged -Weapon Destroyed result the vehicle is not shaken or stunned and can shoot and drive in the next phase if it still has other weapons left and isn't earlier Immobilised.
A vehicle that suffers a damaged result but doesnt have any weapons left and is Immoilised is effectively Destroyed - wrecked.

The Damaged - Weapon Destroyed result makes me wanna have a pintle mounted weapon on my rhinos, just to be able to remove it and thus not being automatically Immobilised.

This damage chart means that the Land Raider will be very difficult to stop. Weapons with a Strength of 8 will not be able to destoy it (if it's not a melta type weapon, it doesnt blow away all the weapons and/or Immobilises it first), and with Daemonic Possession it just will not stop advancing.
Also, as the Land Raider has twin-linked lascannons, it isn't all that bad reducing it's BS by one with Daemonic Possession.

    2.
The ramming rules also looks good.
If your vehicle drives into another vehicle it automatically inflicts a hit on itself and the other vehicle with a strength value calculated like this:

+1 strength for evey 3 inches driven before impact.
+1 strength for every point of armour over 10 on the impact point.
+1 strength if the vehicle is a tank.

    Example:
If a Land Raider drives 10" into the side of a chimera it inflics a S8 hit (+3 strength for the 10" driven, +4 strength for the 4 pts of armour over 10 and +1 for being a tank). The Land Raider suffers a strength 4 hit because it drove 10" (+3) and the chimera is also a tank (+1), but as the chimeras side armour is 10 it doesnt get any strength bonus for that.

If the rammed vehicle is Destroyed - Explodes the attacking vehicle can continue up to it's full move and into other vehicles if able (mmmm... side-ramming tightly packed Ork trukks).

If these two rumours are correct, will it make you use more tanks and Land Raiders?
How would you use the Land Raiders?
Will you configure your Terminator Squads differently?
Will you use other units to transport such as Khorne Berzerkers, Chosen or Possessed (remember the Assault Vehicle rule)

I will definitely give it a try, but if your opponent has nothing to crash into then you just got the land raider.

Well if the rumors are true then I'll just end up driving my land raider thru the enemy fire to unload a pack of close combat termies:happy: you know as they do fluff wise

I would wait for the rules to become official, really.

Agreed. But I believe this means a rhino can potentially ram for Str. 6 (12", +1 AV over 10, +1 for being a tank)..... *evil grin*

I forgot about the dark Eldar. Suddenly Asdrubael Vect became somewhat more dangerous. Thats armour 14 on that thing.

    @Kantoken:
We all have to wait for the new rules. But that doesnt mean we cant be one step ahead, discussing alternative tactics and uses for our models. Can't you write anything constructive for once in a while?

    @ whitewolf1984:
I think that's the whole idea behind these new rules (if they are correct).
The Land Raider is a very unpopular model, which must mean it sells rather poorly. If I were GW, I'd make it more usable. And to toughen it up a bit by making some new vehicle rules and then further adding a new use for it as a bettering ram is just one way.
I will be using some terimes in a Land Raider, and then also use more Termie Lords. Damn... now I have to buy more termies, a Lad Raider and a Terminator Lord. Good work GW.

well the reason that most new rules are created is for the purpose of getting people to buy more stuff that they didn't need before
