So, We have had quite a while now to test out many many varients of the chaos list. I was wondering what your opinions were on the most cost effective troop choice was. Please list what choice you prefer and what options you like to give them.
My personnal faveorite is the straight out of the box 10 chaos space marines armed with dual plasma guns and a power fisting champion mounted in a rhino. These guys are quiet cheap compared to the other choices, they are very effective all round with ultragrit and the speed from the rhino.
What say you champions of chaos?
*Any chance of adding a poll mods?*
I presume you mean 10 guys in a Rhino, not 20, right? 'Cause, you know, the Rhino can only carry ten...
Anyway, I basically agree. I've been playing pretty much exclusively ten guys in Rhino as troop choices. Every squad has two special weapons (usually meltas, to give them some anti-tank ability) and a Champion with an Icon of Glory and either a Power Fist or a Power Weapon (usually a Power Fist)
Ranging between 235 and 265 points, this sort of squad is basically fantastic.
Once again, the conservative, sandwich-heavy portfolio pays off for the hungry investor!
I am a sucker for Khorne.
8 men in a Rhino with a champion w/fist for 243 points.
A good sized squad, fluffy, but most of all... Hurts like hell in CC. 28 WS5, S5 I5 attacks and 5 WS5, S9 Armour save ignoring attacks on the charge.
What you loose in shooting you make up for in Close combat.
Have to agree with you danjones, for their price basic csm sqauds are a steal, I use lots of sqaud of 9 strong with 2 special weapons, they always manage to get their points back.
Our standard Chaos Space Marine is one of the best basic infantry model in the whole game, it comes fully equipped with the best basic stats and Uber Grit wich is great.
The nice thing I like about them is that we can upgrade them with an Icon and give them a nice boost to the stat we want. Also the power fist we can give the Champion or the cheap Lascannon they can take make them really versatile. We can give them a lot of fire power or transform them in CC beasts.
I agree it's the best cost effective troop choice we have.
standard CSM 10 man squad, they can use most of the Chaos marine armory, have above average str and T, and a good armour save.
10 CSM w/ 2x Plasgun and Fisty Champ in a Rhino = 255pts
8x KB w/ Fisty Champ in a Rhino w/ Havok Launcher = 258pts
That Vanilla Marine Unit gets +2 Wounds, 2x Plasguns and 10x Bolters, but the Beez get:
8x +1WS, 8x +1A, 8x Furious Charge, 8x Fearless and a Twin-linked Missile Launcher for the same cost.
So, balancing cost vs effectiveness, I'd say advantage Khorne.
Im gonna have to go with a death guard marine squad consisting of 7 or 8 marines, a plague champion, powerfist and a plasma gun or 2. For only *bleep* more points then a basic marine, its a steal. Alright, your int drops a bit, but you get FnP, better toughness to take the hit and grenades that PO most armies, and really POs horde armies like orks. Maybe im just favoring them because thats what i've always played as them. But thats who im going with.
I look at it this way. Throw any kind of marine into battle one on one with a deathguard marine, 9 times out of 10 the deathguard marine will come out on top.
