The Kai flyer was one of my favourites in the old CSM codex (chaos ltd w wings and Kai gun) and now I can play with him again!
The Tzeench Herald with Disc ends up at a measly 65 pts and can dish out 3 marinekilling shots at BS 5 every turn while moving 12 inches and being a Independent Character makes him hard to target. At least in the current BGB.
I wouldn't be surprised if 2 of them ended up in my list...

I assume you mean BS 4 as opposed to WS5!
But nevertheless it seems to be a good option. A cheap shield of furies or screamers should ensure his survival for a bit. Why only take 2 when you can have 4 though?
The beautiful thing is that he doesn't even need a shield... He just have to avoid being closest to the enemy, which shouldn't be too hard...
I wonder which is more effective, the more devastating Breath which makes the Herald more vulnerable or the Flying Gazer above?
I think Gaze will do the trick. After all you have three shots that hit on 2s and kill marines on 3s, that makes 2 dead MEQs a turn...
The Breather can kill more but then the Herald gets shot and/or assaulted by the survivors...
The herald is only BS 4. He's not that great at shooting, better than the other heralds but worse than a GD or DP.
Still, gaze is probably the best option if you're trying to keep him cheap, as Breath, whilst great, is a no-go for the herald. Yes he can have soul devourer, but he'll still die horribly due to being lame at combat. Breath just puts him too close.
Even with the rumoured loss of IC shooty invincibility in 5th ed, we get screening instead.
So it may have some utility.
I don't know yet... but it seems for daemons that shooting units like that may become really important in the long run, when people start trying to run really maxed out and competitive armies.
