so, yeah. Today at my local GW, they were going through games giving into's to the 5th ed rules, and all i can say is that they totaly fesk me over.
As mentioned in one of my other posts, I'm trying a dual lord setup which involves killing everything in the kill zone before they get hit. That will no longer work. vaugly what happens is when you charge EVERYONE will be involved, so there is no way for even the avarage of 15 attacks to wipe the killzone & kill the hidden power fist which will make them go splaty.
Also, due to my slannesh, i have a few blastmasters... which are now abysmal... they have a 1/3 chance to hit, and if they don't they'll scatter at least 3" on avarage... for the mere 40pts they are.
So, anyone want to try and promote staying slannesh, as it's the only god that appeals to me at current time, and i prefer themed lists to "Rolfel, i have 2 lashes and all the thousand sun bolter spam evarra!1!!" lists or whatever they do.
(and as a side point, if you think i should give up as slannesh will just fail, should i go back to speed freaks, or DE coven list...)
Well it shouldn't surprise you that with just 2 lords you'll clear stuff, GW is bored of seeing single characters wiping whole sqauds of the board, sent sqauds with the lords to provide extra support.
You should just redesign your list to fit in with the new rules vefore chucking the towel in, just proxy out a new list knowing what failed in the new rules with your current list.
Its all about evolution
I also had a chance to read through moy local store's advance copy. It is going to make our Daemon Princes and IC's much more vulnerable in some ways. We're going to have to put the smaller ones in squads and just prepare before throwing DP's into the fray.
But overall, I'll say I was quite impressed. The new rulebook seems to clear up a whole lot of things we've been wondering about and I think it'll create a new era of peace among commanders. Granted I could be wrong, but I am hopeful.
And one of the coolest parts is that our Daemon Princes can no longer be killed outright by force weapons.
"If you can wait til I get home, then I swear we can make this last."
Boo, get up and get on with it. Im not sure how many of you people were here for chaos's translation from 3.5 to 4th ed, but ohhh did we have some moaning. What you have got to remember is things change, rules, army lists etc, What you have to do is evolve your list around it.
Im sure you can remodel your lords, drop the blastmasters and change your tactics. Its great to collect and enjoy painting the models, but playing the same tactics and using a similar list all the time gets boring, especially if it works very well and you can play in auto pilot.
Actually, my duel lord setup was a new list that i put together based on rumours of 5th ed, as for the other armies, as per my sig, i already own them :p
For the bored of lists, i change my list every two weeks or so, in order that i have fun, and no one knows what to expect, be it rhino rush/lashs/8-legged freaks or whatever
as for binning blastmasters.... how the hell am i supposed to kill anything. with a decent save using a themed army, if parts of each theme are ahnilated.
Also! i was here for the new chaos book, i was starting out my lost & dammed, based on nurgle, found i couldn't use them, went with slannesh normal chaos and got on with it, as i was one of the outsiders at the time, so instead of being a chaos player: "OMG gimmped" i was closer to the "they too damn strong now" (although i did dislike the no-custom d-prince)
but yeah, i've proxied a few lists already, and i can't seem to make any decent 'pure' slannesh ones...
on a side note however, i've discovered that i can Never. defeat necrons in 5ed.
strongest weapon str 8, so only glancing. to destroy you must remove all weapons & imobilize.
you cannot destory all its weapons. it just gets D6-59 shots on one of its guns >.>
thanks for feedback though, and i think i made my inital post slightly too... emotional? moany? whatever
I think it's quite possible to make a solid Slaanesh list in 5th edition. Your dual Lords won't take out entire squads on their own, but they will if they both attack the same squad. Possibly give them Lightning Claws for greater infantry killing power. The Blissgiver is a character killer, not a squad killer.
Also, consider making one a Sorcerer with Winds of Chaos (or better yet, Lucius the Eternal), for a devastating template attack.
Note - both these suggestions are to help you deal with squads.
If you think 5th weakened Slaaneshi Lords, you must not have played them in 3.5 - back then, I had a 230 point Slaanesh Bike Lord who ate Bloodthirsters for lunch and regularly killed half my opponent's army.
Another bit of advice -
Don't just load up on Noise Marines. Noise Marines are good, but I would take at least one squad of regular CSMs with an Icon of Slaanesh per squad of Noise Marines. It's cheaper and you can access some of the core special weapons like meltas and plasmas.
Also, if you're going with winged lords, make sure there's at least one small raptor squad with them.
Lords are nothing more than one part of the Chaos Army. They, like every other unit, are an expendable asset you need to utilise to procure victory. Even in the current game, the tactics of characters clearing out the kill zone is risky at best - especially against anything with T4, where your lord will be struggling to injure anything.
As others have mentioned, there will be changes necessary, that's just a fact of the game.
At least give it a proper try before you shoot yourself in the foot. It's difficult, I faced a blow like this to my CSM when our codex got redone, but I'm holding on to them just incase.
