hi everyone im kinda new to the forums and new to chaos and i really need some advice. at first i was going to make an undivided army but then i began looking into the four gods. by question more or less is one are the advantages and disadvantages in deticating to the diffrent gods? i read the codex before the new one and it talked about the diffrent powers and abilities deticating(cant spell) to each of the gods but not in the new one that i saw, why is that?any info you guys can give me would much appreciated. thank you much
Well, in the new book the dedication to a god has gone. You can if you want, but it isn't necessary. You could have a unit of Berzerkers led by Lucius and Ahriman if you wanted. As to the practical applications of this, you are probably limiting your available options by dedicating yourself (not that that should stop you, all my armies but one are Cult Legions). However, Undivided is most likely the "competative" route. However, by dedicating to the Gods you get a number of advantages:
Khorne: Ah, the Blood God. If you field a Khornate army you like close combat. A lot. Khorne armies tend to do quite well if you also field the odd ranged unit. A unit of Khorne Berzerkers can eat most things for breakfast, and Khorne also gets (in my opinion) the best special character in the book. With a puritan Khorne army however, tanks can be quite problematic, as can armies that can simply run around you. But as soon as you get stuck in, expect to win. Even against other hardcore combat armies, like Orks/Nids.
Nurgle: Well, the armies of the Plague God are actually the most balanced of the God armies in my own opinion. In short, they play just like a normal Chaos marine army... except theyre more survivable. A lot more survivable. Another note about Nurgle is that you are usually better sitting back and Rapid Firing rather than running into combat.
Slaanesh: The armies of the God of Excess tend to be very very very very (very very very...) deadly at range. Their basic troops can outshoot a Fire Warrior. In addition to rocking in combat. Slaanesh is very versatile, but is expensive to pay for it. They perform very well, except the fact a puritan Slaanesh army will have very little AP2. However, Slaanesh can also do "Firepower on the move" very well.
Tzeentch: Marine Killer. Simple and true. They suffer a bit against Hordes. But against MEQ armies just laugh as their models fall over and die. Also good at mobile shooting. However there isnt that much to say on Tzeentch other than they rip hordes and can move and shoot...
However. Undivided can have tiny little bits of all of these. SO they wont be as good as them, but will be better in other areas.
Im running out of time now, so I must stop here. Hope I helped a little.
Totally agree with Achnomad on everything. If you want a fluffy (lorebased) army then the cult lgions are fun.
However, if you want to make the most of the whole list, a mix of cult troops and undivided is the way to go.
I actually started with a 1500 point mixed army but now I have a lot of stuff so can make up to 1500 points in any cult/mix 'n max or a huge apoc army.
My advice is go for the fluff/models/rules you like and play a few games and see what else you need.
But, like Achnomad said, Khorne is FUN!
As you collect more models and play more games, you will find that a particular style will start showing itself. My army is rather Khorneate, but I never planned it that way... ! Go with what works for you and have fun.
If you are attracted to a particular color or model, by all means do it! There is no such thing as a 'bad' Chaos army. All styles can work. Guaranteed.
thank you guys so much for the info.right now im leaning towards either using Sound Marine and Beserker units. i really like the way they look and play. my army before this one was necron but it got kind of boring to me, i love the way they played, i just didnt like how thats really all i could do so im hoping with this army i can mix and match for the match im in
Always remember, this is CHAOS.There is no right or wrong way for you're army, make you're warriors suit you're style and gameplay. This is why chaos is so fun
