I play fantasy and am currently making a noise marine list for 40k. One of my several armies in WFB is Daemons - a couple of my friends want to play against my Daemon army but the problem is the bases are square and not round. WFB uses square bases because the Daemons are ranked into units - not skirmishers like 40k.
Would you say it is ok to use the WFB Daemon army with square bases to play 40K or will it somehow make it super unfair or something?
The rules dictate models must be mounted on the bases they were supplied with or larger.
Daemons comes with square bases.
Therefore, Daemons on square bases is totally legal and anybody complaining about it needs to remove their head from a certain orifice.

My daemons are on square bases, and if anything, I found out it was a bit unfair to Me! ;) After all, the 90 degree edges of the base can be targeted with stuff like template and ordonnance weapons and gives more partials than if I had normal round bases...
Also, I'm not 100% sure about that, but I think that when a daemon unit is coming from deepstrike, it's not exactly the same number of models you can put in a circle around the initial model...
Anyway, I decided myself not to rebase them.... yet :)
For those on the opposite side. I have based mine all on circle bases and found some movement trays that have circle slots in them to rank yours up. This may help others deciding whether to go cirlce or square.
Take into consideration that the 5th rulebook makes an emphasis on having 40K models on round bases.
Does anything in the new rules specifically state that you can no longer use bases larger than those round ones -- eg. it is still ok to use square fantasy ones?
Lode, I don't have the book - that is why I am asking Can someone tell me what it says on P3 of the book regarding bases ? Thanks.

It says that they must be based on a base they come with. As Daemons come with both bases, that means you can choose for square(easier for fantasy) or round(better for 40K) bases.
But here's a question: what about old models that came with different bases? Do you use the new size, or the old one?

So in answer to your original question there a two responses. 1) As long as your opponent is fine with it, you're clear. Most players I would think would be fine as it's still a 25mm base (at least me and my gaming group to my knowledge). 2) Most Daemons come with square bases, so you can put them on there.
