i understand that your army has to split in two and you roll for which comes in. my questions are do you want more infantry out first or heavy stuff, or a balance of both? are their certain characters or squads that are better for them to come in first or second? is it wiser to take an even list of troops and elites, and HQs so that it really doesn't matter which comes in? and do most people (daemon players) adjust the two parts based on what they see on the other end of the table?
just a few things i wanna clarify.

Yeah, I definitely always adjust it after seeing my opponent's deployment :) Then I usually still split it somewhat balanced because I never know which half will come! :D
It also depends on your own army.. there's so much options, no one is really fielding the same stuff... if you can post a list, it'll help ;)
I guess in the first wave, I would prefer putting a Pink Horror squad with the Changeling (good saves and the Changeling's ability will be in play soon in the game). So these would help softened up troops. Flamers are usually a good idea. Along with good firepower I always try to put a few close combat units like either Bloodletters or Daemon Princes to try to split the enemy's fire. At least, on turn 2, they'll usually be able to assault.
All in all the first turns are all pretty random by nature, when you're playing Chaos Daemon, so you have to adapt and.... really hope you scatter well and not get cut down by shooting ;)
It will really depend on the mission and opponent, the only thing I make sure of is having at least 1 icon in each group.
Typically I'll drop the shooters and heavy guys first. That means Grinders, DPs, GDs, Horrors, and an icon unit. Lower numbers, but that can dish out tons of firepower to cripple the enemy and survive the counter-attack to make life much easier for the next wave. Otherwise, infantry and speedy units drop to restrict LoS and set up for charges next turn.

I think this will be the age old question for us Daemon players i look at it this way we have a %33.3-%66.7 with Daemonic Assault the %66.7 being the Favored half of the list we pick. you need to plan and make it work well for you if we roll a 1 or a 6 for example i have a group of horrors with my Blue Scribes as my Favored half with a group of Seekers the Blue Scribes fire off Bolt of Tzeentch to wipe out Vehicles and have a 50/50 at firing it one more time the Seekers have a Icon and i get my Daemon Prince in the fight and cast Boon of Mutation now if i get a 1 or 2 my Daemon Prince gets to fire off his Bolt of Tzeentch at Vehicles.
i think its all in the plan of how you fight but you might as well have a good plan no matter what the dice tell you.

Would you mind repeating that with punctuation? I didn't understand a thing you said.
