Hey guys, I am new to the site and to chaos. Was thinking of doing an army of extreme, and wondered what you all thought about 9 x obliterators in a force, Im going for all infantry.
Just throwing it out there
Thoughts most welcome
Kelloggs, it depends on the configuration of the rest of your army, as well as the point value. Nine oblits, for example, is a handsome point sink for a 1000 point build, but isn't nearly the same proportional investment for, let's say, 2000. Overall, you'll hear cheese from some opponents, but they have to remember that you're sinking 675 points into your heavy slots, which is not something to scoff about. Compare this to 390 points for three predators with las-sponsons, and it's clear that you're paying heavily for the oblits. At the same time, oblits come with a fine assortment of utility. Having nine will undoubtedly provide you with weapons to match any opponent. Just be sure that you're protecting them from instant killing las shots.
If you're looking to make a competitive build, I'd recommend taking 3 units of 2. This will free up points for the rest of your army. Of course, it all depends on the earlier two factors: your overall army configuration and the point value of your games.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
Unless you working on a large army I'd advice against taking the full 9 of them, just go with 4 at first in 2 sqauds of 2.
Solid advice from Rabbit and Dreachon.
It does depend upon the rest of the armies configuration and the points value. Id suggest using a couple of small squads before stepping up to the 9 oblits. I played the old IWs 9 oblits list at tournements and by my opponants request, I didnt find it ever so fun as it was just so bland a game to play.
I play an Iron Warriors Army, and I always take 3. Used correctly they an be devestaing. In my last game, against orks, they single handedly wiped out 6 bikers, 2x 20 boys. Before counter charging Cybork Nobs inc Warboss and wiping them out to just the boss with 1 wound. All for the loss of 1 wound themselves. Howver any more would be a waste of points as your oppenant can pick them off far too easily, and anywa, I wouldnt have space for my Defiler or Vindicator.
I currently have 3 but i'm probably going to add in another 3 in a month, maybe 2 months as i'm finished painting my newest aquisitions. I like all infantry CSM forces too and Oblits rock even if they are pricey.
Sooner or later you will want to go to the competitive side of the game so you will play at GT style and thats 1850 i think so 9 oblits would be my choice of heavy support. I have none until now but we had simulated some with firends and yes 9 oblits are the best hs choice since the defiler cannot fire if it has not line of sight, the predator is easy kill and the landraider should be used as an assault vehicle.
Oblits can deal with EVERYTHING Heavy Armor,Swarms, Heavy Infantry whatever you want it can shoot down everything and also it can defend itself in CC.
Tau 5/0/1 World Eaters 0/1/0 Eldar 4/0/0 Death Guard 1/0/0 Space Marines 2/0/0
Id stick to 3-4 oblits for games 1500 and under. Even at 2k i wouldnt go more than 6
A guy at my local store regularly runs 2 squads of 3 in 1750 point games to great effect. He plays death guard, and still manages to have a rather decent force besides the oblits.

i my self have 3 obliterator, i rekon they are the best and i want atleast 6. BUT one thing i find strange about them is that they cant use any bolter weapns ( heavy, nomal and autocannon ) any more. one of my obliterators had 3 of the gatling guns on one hand, but he can't shoot them? And please correct me if i am wrong cus i use to love hailing bolts down on hords of IP and nids just for fun and now i am stuck blowing them up with the risky plasma cannon. BTW is it better to make 3 squads of 1 rather than 1 squad of 3 because of the new shooting rules? ( all must use the same gun)
