I"ve just started incorporating some noise marines into my Black legion army and I've played about 3 games with them now, so far the Blastmaster has done little for me. My noise marines generally end up being part of my 'spearhead', using their ability to lay down lots of fire on the move to take forward objectives. Is the Blastmaster worth it's hfty cost, or am I just using it wrong?

the blastmaster really works best from a distance. more akin to a unit of havocs. if you are going to be using your noise marines as part of your spearhead, i'd drop the blastmaster and take an additional sonic blaster. that would give you an additional 35 pts to use somewhere else. you could even take an additional noise marine with sonic blaster for that.
If your using your Noise marines as a stationary fire support unit (which IMO they are most effective as) then blastmaster is an amazing weapon. I've had great success with it in my last few tournaments and with the new rules on blast templates its better than ever. Like posted above just bunch guys together with LOS and no matter what the foe SM of IG just blast away and they will die and if not there is still they chance they get pinned. Ive actually had alot of luck with it and vehicles if I had nothing ese to shoot at.
So long story short if used the right way its an amazing weapon.

Blastmaster can be used as an assault weapon as well. Basicly the stats of a heavy bolter with the assault ability, its blast attack is hit and miss, but if you want to assautl then you can use the assault version of a blastmaster.
yes you can use it to assult, but at that many points, is it really worth it? i don't have my codex right in front of me, but i think if you are going to use noise marines as a front line unit, then use a doom siren and not the blastmaster.
