I've been hankering for some noisy goodness for a while now, but im having a bit of trouble in planning out my future troops.
so.. noises, what config's work, and which dont?
here's some examples of loadouts im considering:
for the sake of fluffy ill keep the troops to 6.
6 NM, +6 sonics..
-simple enough. midrange fire support that will pay itself back.
6 nm +1 blastmaster
- good for getting the enemy off the objectives(or defending) without getting too close?
5 nm, 1 champ. + siren, + pw, + 5 sonics.
-Precharge carnage, thinning out great swaths of models before the charge.
(needs a fist or meltabomb?)
5NM, 1 champ. +siren, +pw, +4 sonics, + 1 blastmaster.
- OMG my points! , heavy on the cost with some conflicting kit.
not an option unless ive got to dump some points.
The best thing about the noise gear as i see it, and the blastmaster in particular, is it's flexibility.
not being forced to stand still, but gaining power by doing so, is the selling point for me.
I wish there was some wargear-option for combat drugs for the noise marines though.
p.s too bad i can't use a havoc squad with all blastmasters..
that would be sweet (and 25% of my points but thats another matter)
Noise marines have been put on the back-burner by a lot of chaos players; however, they certainly have their place in 5th edition. For ranged units, try a min/max noise squad:
5 noise marines
*4x with sonic blasters
*5x with blastmasters.
Originally, I was fielding two of these squads, but with 8 models. Then, I ran the math and realized that for virtually the same cost, I can get three of the 5 man squads, which awards one additional blastmaster & the possibility of firing at three targets rather than two. The only real loss is a single wound and its sonic blaster. Also, I never liked the idea of having an 8 man squad fire a single blastmaster at a vehicle. It was rather expensive on the points, not to mention that the 7 sonic blasters went to waste. This isn't nearly as big of an issue with the smaller 5 man squads.
For c.c., it's probably better just to drop the sonic blasters and stick with the basic equipment. Keeps the unit cheap. The doom siren falls in nicely. You might also consider the blastmaster, as it's incredibly versatile and gives the unit an emergency tank-busting shot. Something like this:
6x noise marines
*4x with basic weaponry
*1x with blastmaster
*1x a.c. with doom siren and power weapon
I should also say that even the ranged noise marines aren't too shabby in c.c., as they charge in with assault 2 weapons, attack at I5, and still retain their bolt pistol for the additional c.c. attack. Not bad at all really.

In my current chaos lists i've been running 2 squads of 6 noise marines, 1 with 5 sonics and a blastmaster, the other with 6 sonics. They put out a stupid amount of fire power for the numbers and fearless is almost mandatory in 5th ed i swear! . Also, i don't think asp champs are needed in sonic squads, they are better support units then combat units imo, i leave the assaulting to berserkers. Noise marines backed up with berserkers and i'm a happy man.
Take a rhino with them and use it for screening and mobile cover, throw a combi melta on the thing and surprise a few people .
Personally i think mobile firepower wins games, and thats what noise marines do well.
I have good exp. with 6 NMs 3xSonicBlaster and Blastmaster 175pts or + 2xSonicBlaster 185pts.
Everybody with SonicBlaster is also a good squad. 6xSonicBlaster 150pts
Noise Marines are real troops killers. Blastmaster is bad thing if you want to destroy vehicle.

... try Czech language ;-)
thanks for the input guys .
im gonna put the rest of my troops on hold until i get the 2 bits packs with sonics from gw..
time to put my armor together i guess
If i was going to be playing noise marines Id take squads with sonic blasters and a champ with fist and doom siren. With this squad you can run at the enemy and really hurt them at short range before smacking in all targets with the fist.
If you are going to be going all noise squads then back a few of those squads with a few of the blastmaster and sonic blaster squads.
All this goes to say that sonic blasters can work very well in c.c. units. Their biggest weakness is the fact that they make each individual model more expensive, which means each casualty really does hurt you; as compared to the blastmaster, which is equipped on only one marine, and thus, you're not losing the cost of upgrades whenever you lose a noise marine.

Unfortunately NMs can's take fists...Id take squads with sonic blasters and a champ with fist and doom siren.
