hi i have made up a chaos army consisting of the battle force, thousad sons and 2 terminator lords as well as another box of 10 chaos marines. the games i have been playing in range from 1000 to 1500 and both times i have played marines, been heavily outnumbered and lost badly. i think it is my army that is mainly letting me down but i also think its my tactics. if anyone could tell me tips or strategies on how to beat them as well as advice tailored to my force i would be very pleased as im getting desperate for a win now!
I think if you write the exact list that you use down in the armylist section of this forum and ensure you state you are looking for an anti marine list many people will be able to assist you.
How do you use your force on the battlefield? Are you an agressive player, moving your force forwards and always putting you opponant on the back foot or are you a reactive player moving and countering your opponants moves?
Good choices for using against marines are....
Lords with flight and undivided daemon weapons. With the higher strength and additional attacks you will be likely to really beat in a marine unit, the addition of flight helps give you the speed to get to grips with the enemy.
Terminators with combi plasma guns. Also see the Karmoon special. Combi plasma termies deep striking into the enemies lines can seriously mess with his plans, when he looses an entire squad to rapid plasma! The Karmoon special uses a heavy flamer aswell, this template weapon will force a high amount of saves on the enemy unit which can be great in tightly packed units.
Dual plasma Rhino squads are another good unit. 10 chaos marines, two plasma guns, a champion with a powerfist and icon and a rhino. Drive up to the enemy squads, pile out and blaze away. Its a good idea to bully enemy squads, use 2 of your units to attack 1 of theres, pretty much ensuring there annihilation.
Thousand sons are another good units with there low AP weapons. Again using these in a rhino in a similar way to the Chaos marines above will seriously demolish enemy units.
The defiler is a good choice when used correctly. Its big and needs to hug cover like some kind of love sick hippy to make sure it doesnt get destroyed too quickly. Use that ordanance to whittle down squad numbers and then pick of the pieces with your remaining squads. Only charge it up when you know you are safe, dont charge powerfist armed squads or guys with meltabombs.
The Vindicator with daemonic possesion is a good solid unit. It is immune to shaken and stunned results and thus can always hammer the enemy with its demolisher cannon.
wow thanks man that is great advice. i will do as you say and post list in lists section and hopefully put together a killer list. like advice about termies and defiler all i need now is some cash. thanks agen buddy
Firstly, all danjones87's advice is spot on, so I won't bother cloning it.
Note that the reason the standard Chaos SM squad (kitted as above), are so useful and important, is that in the latest version of 40k rules, TROOPS choices are very important. Don't lose sight of that when you make your lists.
Anyway..... Just like our own Chaos Space Marines, Imperial Marines have good toughness and good armour. So the first thing to understand is, that you need weapons with AP1, AP2 or AP3 to be effective against Marines and other MEQs (Marine Equivalents).
In close combat it is very important to have power weapons, because of the good armour save of all MEQs; also because we have the same Strenth as most MEQ's Toughness score, it is generally better to choose Power Fists, than Power Weapons.
MEQ armies all have good shooting weapons, often with low AP (1-3), meaning that they can kill us too.
In truth, many Chaos SM army lists don't look so different from Space Marine lists these days, and that's a problem; because if you fight fire with fire, the battle can go either way. If you fight fire with water, you can win. Annoying the 'water' component of our lists aren't TROOPS choices, and therefore can only be fielded in limited numbers.
Space Marine armies are very tough, and 'And They Shall Know No Fear' keep them coming back for more and more.

thanks for advice. i am still having ideasd pop into my head all the time and i guess the more games i play the more ll discover ways to kill marines. thnaKS
i used to be asking for help for army lists all the time but the trick i always use is: Think about what the other army relies on to be good. For marines that is their toughness, for orks, numbers and once you know this you can write your list. Power weapons especially against marines but head over heals are the.... THOUSAND SONS. A bane for any Marine or necron player.
Just kidding, even though orks are ownage.
Try a Slaanesh approach. I like lashing 2 units of Space Marines together, then using a vindicator to blow them all up.
Red ones goes faster - it's true :)Ork Freebooter Crusaders!3/0/1
i'd go for a slaanesh/tzeneetch army. 2 lashsorcs with a vindicator or two deals with any terminators and devastators he has very handily, and thousand sons spitting ap3 bolter rounds mops up the rest. win by blowing the holy living crap out of the other guy, don't go for objectives, because you'll have a hell of a time outshooting marines with csm if you're both going for objectives. instead, use slow and purposeful to blow away marines within 30" of your t-sons every turn, while you lash stuff that needs more killing then your t-sons can kill within 24" of vindicators.
