Quick question, my army is currently bare bones (HQ + 2 CSM squads) but even from this it's become clear that I need to get me some transport and fast for playing against my Imperial Guard buddy.
So I'm about to go buy at least one rhino, but the question is, should rhinos be generally used for all my squads (so far only 2) (if so, I'll go out and buy 2 now)?
Also, what do you generally recommend equipping rhinos with (Demonic Possession = yay or nay... looks like a yay to me... but I'm clueless so...).
I would recommend all squads to be in rhinos, even if only to protect them from being singled out. The exception is, of course, long ranged squads, but even then it may be worth taking a rhino (Since dedicated transports can transport anyone now) incase it is needed and to take some fire from the other squads.
As to upgrades, I usually just run mine bare bones, I used to try extra armour, but the xx points is not worth it, I am now fiddling around with combi weapons/extra twin linked bolters, to see if that can be effective, but to be honest your safest bet is core rhinos.
Rhinos are also great to keep your other units screened, for example if your HQ has wingsw (Once you get to higher points he should have either that, or terminator armour), then if he is not hidden in a squad of raptors, he can jump along behind the rhinos untill he is close enough to charge.
Good luck with your army, good to see its coming along.
Rork: In the dark future of the 41st millennium there is only friendship.
Fenrir: and magic.
Kaiser-: My Little Chaos Marine, Friendship is Heresy?
Riptor nailed that one. I can only come to think of one more thing, and that's the Havoc Launcher. Chaos Space Marines have problems with horde armies, especially Orks. By giving the rhinos a Havoc Launcher you get one more blast weapon that easily chews up some enemies, as well as turn the rhino itself into a target, drawing some fire away from yor own guys.
So, naked rhinos with Havoc Launchers on all squads.
If I were you I'd byu Predators instead of rhinos. Then get my hands on some Neodymium magnets. That way you can add the turret or lose it as well as the side sponsons. You effectively get two different vehicles for the cost of one. I currently use the turret hole on the pred for my very big Havoc Launchers when I use them as rhinos. And when playing them as predators I can change between heavy bolter sponsons and lascannon sponsons depending on my army setup.
"The more choices you force the opponent to make, the better the chance for you to capitalize on his mistakes"
As stated above, Riptor has pretty much nailed this one down. I myself run all my infantry units in rhinos, for me its all or nothing.
The enemy can easily pop one or two rhinos in one turn while if you are rushing him with three or more it becomes difficult to prioritise targets.
To add to Riptors argument for rhinoing up havoc squads, the rhino can be used as mobile terrain, you can move it to block line of sight (LOS) from other shooters or park it up to block your LOS to other troops meaning no priority tests. It can also be used to tank shock or tank block enemy assualt units, stopping them getting the claws/saws into your heavy weapons.
