Im assuming by meltas you mean regular and not multi melta. From you configuration, It sounds like a very potent anti infantry force. Against armor thats tougher than a rhino or skimmer, you will have a hard time. I myself have 2 configs, The anti infatry is 2 autocannons and 2 heavy bolters. The anti tank is 2 ML and 2 Lascannons, although the latter can also handle infantry too.

From those choices, I would second Hashulaman's 2 Autocannon, 2 Heavy Bolter suggestion - in an 8 man havoc squad, of course.

Or, I would just make a 6 man havoc squad with 3 autocannons.

Agreed here, the 6 man with 3 autocannons would work best. However I would seriously recommend you look at getting a fourth autocannon if you wish to run havocs, as 8 man/4 autocannon squads can be amazing.

Unfortunately they took a hit when we came to our new codex (No more tank hunters. =( ) but we can still cause serious damage to light vehicles, and decimate mid infantry (Stormtroopers, etc).

I've been thinking of building a unit of havocs with four heavy bolters as in the old 'Teeth of Khorne' havoc unit fluff, so I suppose it would be something like eight havocs with the icon of khorne, three heavy bolters, an autocannon and an aspiring champion with a powerweapon.

Pity that neither the aspiring champion or the icon would be of much use in a unit like this but I think it's more important to stay true to the fluffy feel of the army rather than minmax efficiency.

Heavy Bolters would work better against Stormtroopers though. :p

And lascannons against vehicles, the point is that the autocannon is 'in between'.
Its not the best at either, but it can perform in either situation (Kind of like CSM with shooting and CC).

The beauty of autocannons is that they can are high S enough to pop a rhino or skimmer, but can also take down a carnifex with an entire havoc sqaud of 4

I prefer plasmaguns to autocannons, personal preference but I tend to see alot more "within doubletap" ranges now adays

I'd take a 6 man squad with autocannons, most flexible option you have unless you plan on running a special weapon havok squad.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.

Aye, but to get 2 shots with the plasma gun you have to be within 12 inches, meaning they could charge you next turn. The autocannon, however, can be 3 times that, and still fire the same amount.
