Howdy spiky boys, ==Me== here
==My== brother and I are starting up a gaming club at our school and we figured we would showcase 40k and send other poor souls down the path of damnation. To do this we intend to paint up combat patrols of various armies for people to look at, play with, and generally get a feel for the army in question.
After rummaging through the collection, we have Eldar, Marines, Chaos Marines, Daemons, Tyranids, and Orks. As I play Marines, Orks, and Daemons already I've got a good handle on what to include to show off those armies. ==My== brother plays bugs so he's got them covered. So that leaves Eldar and spiky marines.
So, I ask you CSM players, how would you go about putting together a combat patrol (400 points, 1 Troop required, no more than 2 wounds per model, no 2+ saves, no vehicles with Ft+Sd+R AV higher than 33, no ordnance) that would best exemplify what makes Chaos Chaos?
I was thinking of sticking with basic marines and avoiding daemons to prevent any cult getting left out or overrepresented and confusion between lesser daemons and Chaos Daemons.
Also, bear in mind this is geared towards new players so an uber competitive list is not necessary and if it can be made cheaply that's all the better.
Thanks for any input
Hmmm. Interesting challenge - make a fun list for newbies to learn the game and army with -
I'd go with something like this -
6 Chaos Space Marines - 140
5 Chaos Raptors - 115
6 Chaos Havocs - 145
Heavy Bolter, Autocannon, Missile Launcher
Total - 400
I think that's a pretty good demonstration of what Chaos is capable of - you have one of almost every special weapon, and one of almost every heavy weapon, you have a rhino and some Raptors so there's lots of mobility - the new comers will like moving everything around. Also have a decent number of troops.
See for me it would have to be:
10 Chaos Space Marines
2 Melta Guns
Icon of Chaos Glory
10 Chaos Space Marines
2 Plasma Guns
Which shows off the versatility of chaos, and has a decent model count and core.
Those look great, thanks guys.
Would it be possible to do a mix of the two? I ask becaue I currently have 16 CSMs (a normal box and 6 of the snap fits) and would like to make as much use of them as possible without breaking the bank. I think mobility would be a big selling point as I'm trying to avoid static shooty armies, which is quite easy without Guard in the mix
Here's what the other armies are looking like.
Marines will be using new Codex, a 10 man Tac squad in Rhino backed by Sternguard in a Rhino. Mobile, lotsa dakka, and the always amusing Sternguard.
Orks will either be a horde of boyz (50 or so) or a unit of shootas, a trukk mob, and some kanz. I'm leaning towards the latter for ease of movement phase and the fun of kunverting kanz.
Daemons will be Bloodletters, Daemonettes, and Flamers (basically everything I own minus the Soul Grinder).
Tyranids I'm not sure on, but I'm guessing either a traditional Warriors/Gaunt swarm or a bunch of Genestealers.
Eldar I'm working on in another thread.
9 CSM 225
AC with PF, ICG, flamer, Rhino
8 CSM 170
AC with PW, ICG, melta,
flamer squad has mobility and will draw fire away from the melta squad

How Did This Get Here I Am Not Good With Computer
I thought the rules where no vehicles?
no vehicles with armour 13 or more, rhinos and dreads are good
Dreads are excluded from combat patrol since 12+12+10 = 34 > 33

Awww, you gotta throw a few spawns in there just to show some demons. Else they'll just be spikey marines to the new players.
Yes, I did deep-strike your sister...
