hi, i am going to try and model a herald of tzeentch (in a chariot), but im not sure what they are supposed to look like? Or what model from GW would fit as one?
Also, before i go buying a chaos spawn, is the boon of mutation spell good? Sounds fun to use.

As there is no model anything tzeentch would pass. I have seen heralds modeled as a horror. Some use sorcerers of t and champions of t, fantasy warhammer offers lots of GW options for heralds of T. All the spells available to the herald are nice. I think the chaos spawn model with the tzeetch bits would work fine.
the champion of tzeentch from the fantasy range would work really well wouldnt it? looks heaps cool, embodies the tzeentch spirit, and did i mention it looks heaps cool?
IIRC, heralds are just elevated base demons, so I use a horror model that looks a little flashier. I use old metal blue horrors for horrors and pink horrors ( they are bigger ) as my heralds, also for any model with bolt, or the changeling.
I think the real benefit from the boon spell is the killing of the targeted model. Get lucky and take out that PF, or character, they do not get a save of any kind, even invulnerable, as long as they fail their toughness test. It is a desperate messure that you need a little luck for. Although I would rate it higher against Eldar and their darker kin, as their T is lower and they tend to have lots of their unit power in their champions.
I believe that the rules don't "require" you to place a spawn. Because they are kind of sucky, especially in KP missions. I think that the only time I have cast Boon is from a Greater Demon, becasue mine tend to get too close to the enemy anyway. My Heralds tend to keep their distance and just provide fire support. Gaze and Bolt are all I need.
Hi, i had another question, why would you choose to use a disc of tzeentch over a chariot for your herald? they both cost +15 points, and the chariot seems to give you so much better bonuses.
Also, when you choose the boon of mutation spell, do you mostly use it for the killing something without saves part rather and NOT putting a chaos spawn?
The reason why i asked is because i thought if i bought the chaos daemon box set, i would use one of them to model as a large pink horror and use that as my herald, but as one poster pointed out, the champion of tzeentch does look very cool
For my Heralds, I do use the Champion of Tzeentch, mounted on the disc that the Lord of Tzeentch comes with, pulled by two screamers. (requires a chariot base + 50mm monsterous creature base - the model is HUGE)
As for Chariot v. Disc - the only reason to select the Disc is that it allows you to keep the Independent Character rule, so that you can stick him into another squad. Useful if you want to give him Breath of Chaos and Master of Sorcery, then pair with Flamers, but the Chariot is just all around better, IMO.
Also, I think you're missing the Boon of Mutation spell. When it suceedes, it kills the model outright - no eternal warrior, no wounds, no saves - it's just gone. You then replace the model with a Chaos Spawn - it's not two seperate actions. Is it terribly useful? ....eh....I'm not a fan. I could see it being useful if its taken on 4 Heralds and then you spam something like a 2+ save monsterous creature, but....99% of the time, unless you're just shooting for a spawn, you're only getting a 1/6th chance of success. I'd rather bank on Bolt of Tzeentch or Breath of Chaos, but that's me.
That said, I do take it on my Lord of Change in larger point battles to give him extra options in combat.
Overall, I think that Boon of Mutation is more of a friendly game gift, not necessarily a competitive one.
Here's something that could be fun though; give it to 4 Heralds of Tzeentch & 3 Daemon Princes. That's 7 Boons per turn once they all come down... You target one unit of Orks and you can take out their Power Klaw and 1 or maybe 2 more regular Orks. That means that the Orks will then get assaulted by 2 or 3 Spawns, which will tie them up for a turn or 2. Those spawns could potentially thin the ranks enough to allow horrors the ability to clean up the rest.
Not only that, but you are also allowed to focus all of your other shooting at a second unit, and position your DPs for a charge on the Orks fighting the spawns.
Probably not the most competitive, and it seems to me that you would need at least 3 or 4 Boons in order for it to be effective enough to do anything. It could be fun though.
Fantasy: Daemons (Angels), 40k: Black Templars
I made mine from some fantasy champions and flier bases with plasticard. I still haven't found a base that matches them well.
Next time you are in your hobby store have a look in the fantasy daemons book. There is a cool picture of a HOT on chariot in the army pic
Not sure about you guys, but I'm totally digging this model I picked up from my local store to use as a herald: http://oz.games-workshop.com/games/w...r-familiar.gif (not the best picture in the world, he does also have another face on the back and more tentacles)
I'm also looking around for ways to make a chariot and will probably use the screamers as everyone else seems to be. I'm hesitant to glue him to the disc itself though in case I don't want to use the chariot for who knows what reason.
As for boon of mutation, I've taken it in a couple of games and used it only maybe once. It sure seems like a neat concept but my issue is with the range. I like to keep my herald as far away from combat as I can as he's a bit useless in melee.
