I recently snatched up a squad of marines that I intend to use as chosen. Now after looking through my codex, I'm kind of at a loss on what weapons to take for them. In regards to what type of army I run... I really can deploy anything from a myriad of options. I usually depoy 1-2 squads of berzerkers with Kharn supporting them, some possessed or a 5-man terminator squad, and 2-3 obliterators. the other troop options can be filled by any of the other 3 cult troops as I have them all.
originally I was thinking to deploy them with meltas as the main enemy I face is space wolves, and he loves his leman russ to death, but I figured after playing him the other night and getting a nasty deep strike right next to him with my oblits and destroying his tank on my first attempt, maybe I should use them as troop hunters.
second question, whats the best way to distinguish chosen from plain old chaos space marines?
sorry for the rambling in the first part
i don't have much experience with chosen but i could imagine 2 nice combinations:
-10 chosen: 4 power fists, icon of khorne, melta or flamer (let them flank march)
-10 chosen: 5 plasma guns (as soon as they hit your opponent he knows why plasmy is scary, can flank march to threat everything closer to the edges as 18" with doubletab death)
you could try to make your chosen look a bit more stealthy (like not so shiney colors and bright trims, extra-large banners and such). or make them look more elite than regular csm (georgeous banner, even brighter colors, tons of trophies). just make them look diffrent to your regulars. the more, the merrier.
Id use either meltas, plasmas or even flamers. depends on your target.
For modelling you could put a trophey head of your most hated enemies (Imperial Fist Scum!) on the backs of each model. Extra things likes chains and spikes will go a long way too.
It really depends what you want to do with them, if you want them to be close combat, then go with power weps, PF, IoK. If you want tank hunters give them melta and PF. Also you can give them a rhino and they can outflank in their transport.
Your eyes can deceive you, don't trust them
I put snakes from the jungle swarm (lizardmen) army on the bases of my chosen. Green snakes writhing around their feet makes them look that much cooler.
But normaly I put either plasma's or melta's on them. Once in a while flamers (when I'm fighting orks/nids.
Yes, I did deep-strike your sister...
Necrons : W-8 D-3 L-7 (Sleeping in their TombFoam, waiting for a new codex)
Chaos Forces (CSM/CD): W-42 D-19 L-28
Apocalypse Games : W-4 D-0 L-1 (4 Titans, Brass Scorp, 3 Baneblades, 2 Bombers, 3 Fighters, and a Partrage in a Pear Tree)
I love my Chosen, use them almost every game with the following set up.
8 Chosen 219: 2 meltaguns, 3 powerweapons, IoCG
These units cause serious havoc in an enemies back line and are relatively cheap.
"Dare to be Naive"
If someone helps you, or you just like what they say, rep them
Best thing to avoid with chosen are unnecessary upgrades. Keep them cheap but effective. Something like this:
8x chosen wit IoK
*2x special weapons (melta or plasma)
*1x power fist
The squad can darn near do anything you need, and you're not investing too many points that might draw unwanted attention. If I could, I'd take 3 of the above units every time, except that, well, 5th ed rules makes that difficult with the new emphasis on troop choices.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
Im still tempted to use Chosen as a disposable unit of anihilation.
I'm going to admit I ran a rather suicide death army once. Was great fun. 15 Plasma chosen outflanking, 3 obliterators, 8 plasmas in havocs and 2 combi plasmas. All in proxied dreadclaws
Oh my god it was hilarious, I played it in 4th by the way. I think I killed more than my enemy (Marines) did. Everything just died. In addition to him. Firing about 60 plasma shots a turn puts a dent in everything.
However I usually use Rabbit's chosen, but mine have IoCG.
ive recently tried 5 chosen with flamers, and had quite a good success. even against MEQ units. with flank march, any unit within 12" of the table side they come on is going to be in trouble. my best result so far was an entire unit of 10 necron warriors. 40 odd hits from 5 models is going to hurt even 3+ armor saves, and i wiped out the lot without even needing to assault to finish them off.
at only 115 pts, they are cheap enough to be expendable, and with only a little luck it isnt hard for them to make their points back. they also make a gd threat to take some fire away from your main squad as with their krak grenades, they can even threaten static tanks enough to worry an opponent
