DP's come without wings?!
but seriously, i cant think of any reason you wouldn't want to take wings. DP's are very hard to wide with the new LOS rules, and without any kind of movement mod, and no ability to hide them in a squad, its going to spend far too long getting anywhere to survive imo.
A Lord could become a Winged Prince but, without Stature, was represented with the smaller Lord model.
Alessio replaced Stature, which had WYSIWYG rules, with MC - which does not have such rules, afaik.
Similarly, the old Winged GD models no longer fit the Gavdex rules.
Sure, you can still use the old DP and GD models if you wish to do so.
But, if you already have, say, four extensively converted Winged Lords and Sorcs ...
I do agree that, whatever the model, GDs and DPs make irresistible targets.
DPs, at least, have the Wings option to offer some mobility.
The poor GD is just a sitting generic duck.
I sometimes field a DP without wings. Typical configuration is with Doombolt only; he skulks around in terrain, dishes out just enough to be a threat and (usually) absorbs an impressive amount of firepower. People call me crazy but, with Raptors being untrustworthy in terrain, he actually does quite well in my more traditional Night Lord lists. I have also debated using MoN and Nurgle's Rot and setting him by my objectives for the next time I encounter an outflanking horde spammer but haven't experimented yet.

I use a daemon prince with MoN only for 130 points. The rest of the 1500 point army is 5x7 Plague marines, 1 dread and 1 pred.
I use him to keep my points down while fulfilling the mandatory HQ slot. Plague marines also don't do well against terminators so I use the daemon prince as a babysitter to charge threats to them that they can't handle. I would like to get wings for him but what to drop? He also seems less of a threat without wings so often survives the battle. The enemy can put the firepower into him to take him down but the rewards of doing so aren't really worth it.

A DP needs wings, period. Its only 20 pts., which puts him at 130 pts. that is not too expensive for an HQ. I usually add MoK to mine which puts him at 140 pts. He is probably the cheapest HQ that is the most effective. The great thing about the wings is it poses a threat so many people aim their anti-tank weapons at him.
The only thing way I could see a DP without wings is if he was made to be shooty i.e. BOC, doombolt. Then he would sort of be like a wraithlord except with a shorter range.
