1) Which model in a unit do you give an Icon to model-wise? (basic 10man CSM squad with 2 special weapons/Champion)
Standard guy or special weapon guy?
I dont think there is anything saying the Icon Bearer cant have special weapons-if there is ignore the question as it becomes pointless.
Reason for asking is that it was pointed out to me that I had no actual Icon in a squad of standard marines but was still applying the benefits of the Icon so wasnt quite WYSIWYG. (my mistake I misread the rules on Icons). So upon re-reading the Icon rules I see that if the Icon bearer is killed you lose the benefits. Now Im guessing most of us allocate wounds to standard CSMS before special weapons/champions but wouldnt it make more sense to give the Icon to a special weapon guy just so you have 7 wounds to lose before losing the upgraded CSMs?
2) How does everyone represent a Icon of Chaos for Terminators/Raptors? (obviously only if you take a Mark) Is there an other way of representing an Icon besides the type you get in the CSM boxed set?
the Chaos vehicle upgrade sprue has smaller icons that you can put on the side of your vehicles if you wish, for terms if you wanted you could get a storm shield and file off the icons and glue on the vehicle ones. alternatively you could give your terms or a term a spear type weapon and have the icon be a banner hanging from it. my raptors are made from combining the new CSM and SM jetpacks and will carry the banner with them.

i thought that in 5th edition that models had less protection. So a squad of 6 takes 8 wounds you have to roll a dice for each model once and two models twice in a circle kinda dealy. (correct me if im wrong i haven't been able to play 5th much) so i guess it could be still useful but then again if you roll bad for that one guy your losing a special weapon and you no longer have the benefits of marks. I think i would still put the mark on a person with a special weapon as it could protect him from small rates of fire. but once you get a large number o wounds you'll probably be feeling not so good with all your eggs in one basket.

technically if you had mixed weapons being shot at the squad you could allocate the less damaging saves to your special and icon guys and the more deadly saves to those who matter less and still abide by the everyone taking a wound rule.

I run icons on my unit champions for raptor/CSM. With the terms I usually make him a separate model sometimes it helps with the small squad/wound allocation.
I made the icons from the tank sprue (chaos symbol for IoCG) and small chain to hold the icon on the champion. It was a quick upgrade for my nightlords from the previous dex, however I've gotten some compliments...
I always give my icons to my champions, so far it's only bit me in the keister once.

As I change armies quite a lot (playing virtually all types of Chaos), i tend to use Icons which are detachable.
Although it doesn't look as good as a specifically modelled model, I often attach painted icons as large standards to a particular model's base.
This means I can stick them to terminators or raptors...
as for which model to use. I still haven't figured out the best answer to that.

Putting the Icon on a regular bolter joe will help keep the squad alive longer as they now have another 'different' model they must kill by wound allocation.
So it really comes down to what you want for the squad. Increased survivability vs. safer special weapons/icon.
