Please use this thread to discuss tactics against Necrons and share advice.
Please don't feel afraid of bumping this thread as and when you need to. The purpose is to create an archive of useful information against Necronians.
I must admit, that Necrons are one of the armies which I've had very few problems with - simply because of their weakness in close combat VS the all around nature of our forces.
That said, there are many threats which cannot be ignored with an experienced Necron general, and if you're not careful you'll be dominated and turned into dust.
Share your experience to keep one step ahead of these funky silver killers.
So please take it away!
Try to keep discussion relevant. Every once in a while I'll comb over these threads to clean up any superfluous posts.

the best thing to remember is that lone necron warrior squads cant self rez if they arent next to another unit. this is important for destroyer units, especially in low point games. if you knock out the unit they cant come back at all (except, i believe, with a lord with res. orb.).
the other is that necrons will nearly always die to sweeping advances if they fail their morale test in assault, which happens to be our specialty. basic CSM and berzerkers are incredible for this role, the only trick is getting them in assault range.
one final thing, i know that monolith is big and scary and either throwing pie plates or rerolling failed wbb rolls, but phase out is your friend, as well as av14 all around and no second dice for MCs/meltaguns/chainfists mean that his monolith is probably not going anywhere.
How Did This Get Here I Am Not Good With Computer
Theres two ways to take out necrons dakka or high strength weapons. The instant death kind. Start throwing some vindi pie plates at them and watch the horror as they cry about we'll be back rolls( Ive done my fair share). This is also a demoralizing tactic as the main ability of necrons is there toughness to kill. Also with necrons you want to wipe out entire squads at a time if possible this is a more important technique when using dakka. These techniques are mostly for shooting. Your main focus should be to get into close combat with these guys.
Also dont bother wasting icon of slanesh or tzeench as necrons have few armor denying weapons(heavy destroyers and the center of a monolith pie plate are the only thing that can punch through termy armor. and the staff of light along with the tomb spyder weapon are the only thing that should give power armor trouble.) watch out for there special unites these should be destroyed fairly quickly. Wraiths destroyers heavy destroyers fall into this category.
keep in mind if you kill the heavy destroyers you have a good chance of keeping your vehicles in good shape(despite the nerfed gauss.) vindi pie plates work really well against warrior spam.
The Decayed Ones 2500 points of nurgly goodness.
Necron- Ice Wraiths of Scy-mir 2000+
Imperial Daemon Hunters- 1500
zerkers would do best against the Crons as they are not very impressive in CC. Plague Marines would annoy the heck out of the cron player as they would go down less frequently than the crons would, give them some meltas and you got cron hating love right there.
May the "Nurgley Goodness" protect you!
when dealing with necrons I choose to go with my 1ksons in a rhino. inferno bolts make it so that they don't stand back up and slow and purposeful adds relentless making it so that they can move and shoot a full 24" shot which helps as you colse on in.

Fenrir: and magic.
Kaiser-: My Little Chaos Marine, Friendship is Heresy?
Id suggest taking super fast units that can eat necrons in combat. I personnally dont bother shooting at the monoliths unless I have a s10 weapon, vindicators are a good choice for lith popping.
Steps for victory against Necrons:
Step 1: Place your chaos army on the table
Step 2: win
Repeat steps 1-2 as needed.
In truth Necrons should struggle against a CSM army in 5th due to their natural weakness to powerweapons in conjunction with their now weak ability to stick around with sweeping advance.
For unit selection even a basic CSM squad with a powerfisted AC is a nasty threat to any necron opponent. I run an infantry chaos list which just runs through a phalanx style necron enemy.
However the destroyer based necron army can still pose some problems due to its speed. My suggestion is to simply go for phase out as they are still required to bring 2 units of warriors so target them first. Then just focus fire with plasma or TS's inferno bolts and watch them fall.
Monoliths, well just ignore them. They represent a huge investment of points and thus there will be less 'necorn' special rules. Its actually better to use your lascannons/anti-tank to shoot those destroyers or immortals to deny their WBB saves. They are slow so just remember to move around them.
As for their res-orbed lord just apply berserkers as needed (well any CC unit really). Even with the res orb kill enough and the necrons will break and run. With I2 you can run them down very easily and eliminate the unit without actually having to kill the entire unit.

If someone helps you, or you just like what they say, rep them
Turning the Necron Lord in to a spawn is always good for a laugh. (ohh the memories)
Seriously though havent played against the all Destroyer army so this is mainly for Warrior based armies.
1k sons from afar gunning them down is a good idea. Simply because with a 3+ save most bolter fire will bounce off so it makes putting them down a lot easier. (After all theres no guarantee they will get back up). Anything fast and good in combat will be difficult for them to deal with. (pretty much everything in the army list has this option) Large CSM squads with all the trimmings will give Warriors a horrible time. Bezerkers being able to get in to combat will cause havoc.
The Monolith is a strange one. Ignore it and it can cause problems with that whole teleport thing-devote a lot of firepower to it and you miss the opportunity to force them to phase out. Ive seen a few games where the monolith just freaked out the opponents so much that they lost their head and started throwing everything at the monolith from turn 1 and then blasted to bits by the rest of the army. Id say on the whole ignore it if you can in favour of blasting those with the Necron special rule. Times when you cant ignore it pretty much depend on the situation.
The Monolith can only teleport units that are alive so put as much effort in to wiping the squad out (completley)on the charge.
2 Monolith lists. Ignore-there will be less Necrons to kill.
3 Monolith lists. Same again. (and wonder why they are using 3 'Liths)
Against necrons is one of the rare times id go for power weapons instead of power fists for Champions. More attacks=more dead necrons.
