Hey guys, I have been lurking for a while, but thought I would finally take the plunge and join the company. Before I get started, I just want to say 'thanks' for all the great advice you have given here. It has been an amazing help and has assisted my grand, putrid army in overcoming those foolish enough to try to stand against it many, many times. All hail to Grandfather Nurgle, and all hail to the forces of Chaos!
So, I and a few friends played a 2500 point game over the holiday (Chaos and Nids versus Black Templars and Ultramarines), and I decided to finally take a named character. I usually rely on two DP, or a DP/Lord combo, but this time I took a nurgle marked DP and Typhus. Good god o'mighty. Typhus is a freakin BEAST. I stuck him with a 5 man strong Karmoon special (thanks Karmoon!), and they proceeded to wipe out 2 assault term squads, 2 landraiders (one on a death or glory, lol, I sure do love me some chainfists) and a Sternguard squad (Typhus actually wiped this squad almost by himself with an amazing Winds roll). After this performance, I am sincerely thinking of taking Typhus in any 1500 point or more game. I know he's crazy expensive, but I honestly think he might be worth it.
What do you guys think? I have never been big on named characters, but as far as I am concerned heis far and away the best character in the CSM codex. He might be a little pricey for 1500 point games, but I think he is worth the risk.
Anyway, I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks again guys, you rock!

We need to keep on working together to continue to dominate.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about Typhus. We've known that the Nurgle Daemon weapon got tremendous buffs after 5th Ed, but I had no idea Typhus was this much of a power house.

At the end of 4 turns, out of the 6 terms (total) in the squad, I had Typhus and two Terminators left, Typhus had taken two wounds. Don't forget that Typhus also has FNP for those wounds that just happen to make it through this 2+ armor. (I thought one of my opponets were going to cry after failing a 2+ and then making my FNP )

Typhus is nice but the biggest issue is the termie armour. It significantly reduces his mobility and ability to use some of those close range powers. And as with anything with a daemon weapon that "1" just seems to pop up at absolutely the worst time.
In larger games where you cna afford a landraider he would be great in a nurgle army but in a smaller game it's just a little to iffy for my liking.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
i personally have seen satisfying "spartan-esq" last stands by typhus... as far as mobility goes, i partially helped the problem by putting him in a deepstriking Karmoon squad (credit where credit is due) that comes in behind a rhino with an icon. next turn is really up to personal taste, whether it be combi-plasma love or power weapons to the face...
i would agree with your 1500 typhus hq, only he would be a big priority for the other side, if not the top priority
Typhus is an absolute machine. I have played against him in 1500 points and he happily carved his way through half my army after he deep striked down on the 2nd turn with 7 termi's! If it wasnt for my Slaaneshi lord and his demon wepon i would have been owned! (we were playing Annihialtion).
Typhus is a great HQ choice for a Nurgle army, but be careful and always give him a retinue like you did against the Ultramarines/Black Templars and you should be fine.
i find Typhus is best left at home. he is far too many points to be subject to an insta-gibbing. Plus he is slow and i really am not a fan of that. Nurgle is an expensive god to play (point-wise) and every selection is going to cost you in either Plague Marines or MoN. You can get lots of stuff for the cost of Typhus and most of it would out perform him.
May the "Nurgley Goodness" protect you!
