I'm getting ready to start using my nurgle army again, and I was wondering what people's views on chaos steeds were. Are they effective/worth the points. The one I had in mind was a palanquin for my Lord, giving him MoN, and either daemon weapon or dual lightening claws (criticisms and thoughts would be great). Also, what squads would the palanquin be able to join/lead?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Having a steed doesn't interfere with independent character status, although units still only travel at the speed of the slowest model. I recall the Tzzentchan and Nurglish steeds even being compatible with transports. I have a model that I count as a Khornate Daemon weapon Lord on a Juggernaut. He's a completely unstable fellow but still has his moments...you should have seen what he did to that poor, 51-man conscript squad once. Over half of them died on his charge alone; the IG player couldn't even maintain coherency because I'd charged a second unit at the same time from the opposite side. Fun times!

I think the steeds are great as long as your army is geared to cater for it.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
Only one I ever used was a disk. Kinda a poorman way to do a LoS. If you don't want to drop the extra few bucks on a DP with modeled wings (in WYSISYG games).
Yes, I did deep-strike your sister...
Necrons : W-8 D-3 L-7 (Sleeping in their TombFoam, waiting for a new codex)
Chaos Forces (CSM/CD): W-42 D-19 L-28
Apocalypse Games : W-4 D-0 L-1 (4 Titans, Brass Scorp, 3 Baneblades, 2 Bombers, 3 Fighters, and a Partrage in a Pear Tree)
I never really used the Chaos Steeds, until the new Fantasy Chaos Lord on Jugger came out. It is an awesome model
I hav written a Khorne Mech Army to cater for it and find it very effective. I even intend to convert bikers on juggers.
But i digress, if you have a land raider ready you can get your filth covered Champion where he wants to go any time, and can take more or less any sort of retinue with him. I think any Chaos Steed can be effective if used appropriately.
How are you modelling your palanquin, can you post pictures?
Hope this helps, Revan_101
