I just saw the chaos spawn and chaos "spiny beast" thingy at forgeworld, and I want to know if they can be legally used in 40k.
Yes, the gift of chaos psychic power transforms enemy models to spawns (and puts them under your control).
In the lost and the damned army list you can have a spawn sqad as a heavy support choice.

The giant beast has it's own rules and can be taken as a HS choice on it's own. I have a giant spined beast and it is EXTREMELY effective. My one is a Tzeentch one. Its fun wind of chaosing the enemy units, then chewing them up in assault. The problem with the spawn is it isnt really worth its points. If it fails it's leadership test it cant do anythin. The Beast is well worth the points. I once chewed up two dreadnoughts, a Force commander, a squad of 10 space marines and a landspeeder before he was killed by multiple lascannon and powerfist hits.
