I already have two armies (three counting my Cygnar) to finish building and painting, but I recently bought a bunch of codices in the "know your enemy" spirit, and, well, now I'm in trouble. I have little left to buy for my current armies, and I'm already looking at other stuff.
I'm caught between a bunch of different choices, many of which I never thought I'd like: Orks, Eldar, Tau, nids, and... Chaos.
I never thought I'd like chaos, but I find the Emperor's Children intriguing. I could see a few squads of normal marines and noise marines backed by some heavy stuff, maybe led by Lucius or Fabius. Please don't suggest Nurgle. No offense to you nurglings out there, but the "gross" factor is just too much. Tzeentch has cool sorcerors, but the Thousand Sons look tough to paint, and would cost way too much pointwise for my liking. Khorne Bezerkers look like fun, but I'm having trouble seeing what makes them that different from, say, Orks. Again, no offense.
My biggest problem is, I play MEQs now: Necrons plus I'm rebuilding my marines. How could I do any chaos army without feeling like I was playing another marine army?
Anyway, if you still think I should go EC, why them and not the other races I mentioned? Any suggestions are most welcome.
capitalize on the flavour units of chaos if you want to avoid that generic powerarmor feeling.
Daemons, defilers, dreads, possessed etc.
And since slaanesh appeals to you, noise marines.
Trouble is, the flavour units of chaos are mostly imperfect in some way..
either theyre just unreliable (dread, possessed)
or just don't really know what theyre supposed to be doing, and end up doing a little of each (defiler, noisemarines)
That said, im a slaaneshi player and im loving the randomness and.. umm.. chaos of..
If you want chaos to be safe, reliable and über-competitive, then youll have to cut the codex-roster by more than half (and the fun, if you ask me).
But if so, probably better off playing a loyalist chapter, Imho.
Just some thoughts.

If you've never owned or played Orks, then you're seriously missing out. Some of my most memorable games ever have been while playing with or against Orks. They are so... random, and it's actually amazing how many times BS 2 will actually hit if you have a little faith.
I personally suggest taking the new Ork Character that allows you take warbikes as troops and make a Ork Biker gang... oh man I can barely restrain myself from doing it. Only my wallet is holding me back.
Chaos offers a lot outside of the standard MEQ armies. I'd suggest giving it a try. Find an understanding friend and proxy a few games, trying something different each time until you get your perfect list made up and go for it. There's only one way to see if you enjoy playing Chaos, and that's playing them.
Also, don't give up after one or two games. Give it ten or fifteen games before you make your decision...changing little things here and there trying to fine tune it to your play style.
Chaos - 55,000+ points
Tyranids - 15,000+ points
Necrons - 6000 points
