Hey all, im just adding up some points for a 1k army im building, and im just wondering what are the best upgrades to take for a defiler? Or with its ardy massive fire power does it really need any? IDK im kinda new to warhammer.
I personally go with 2 Extra Dreadnought Close-Combat Arms. 6 Attacks on the charge at Strength 10 is ridiculous. I view the Defiler as more of a shock unit, something to draw fire, rush forward and put lots of pressure on the enemy, not something ot sit back and hunt for tanks (it can do that with it's battle cannon too though). I would make sure it fits with the rest of your army though. Don't want a single Close-Combat Defiler in a shooty army, that'll die crazy fast.
yaa im still in the middle of coming up with my army list. Atm this is what little i have, i kno i need one more troops choice and im working on what the defiler will have. Also i need to add a Rhino in there at least one. As for the second troops choice im thinming of using a cult unit. If i have any left over points from the second troop, Defiler, and any rhinos i need i think i can squeeze in one or two Obliterator cults. My other choice i think is have a second CSM as my troops and use any left over points for some cult troops of the cults.
Chaos Space Marines-10x man squad
-9 Chaos Marines = points
+ Icon of Chaos Glory = points
+1Plasma Gun = points
+1Melta Gun = points
-1 Aspiring Champion = points
+Power Fist = points
Total = 225
Daemon Prince- 1x
-1 Daemon Prince = points
+ Wings = points
+ Mark of Slaanesh = points
+ Lash of Submission = points
Total = 155

well for one, don't put in independent upgrade costs, against forum rules. a defiler really only functions when put with more vehicles. if you want to use one give your marines a rhino, & take a predator or something.
i have to say the defiler is best with the 2 extra CC weapons, in my opinion.
o it is im sry didnt kno. Is there a reson it agiasnt rules?
o and what does CC mean?

Couple of things:
People dont post individual costs for two reasons. First, everyone on lonline knows what there doing, and have the codex to tell them points values and telling someon a Chaos Space Marine is 15 points is like going up to someone working at Games-WOrkshop and syaing "Hey, did you know that an infantry model can move 6 inches in 40k?"
Secondl, posting points values can allow people to get the points, and therefore an army list, for a Chaos Space Marine army without needing to pay for the codex.
One of the moderators will either tell you how to change your post to take out the individual points values. Or do it for you.
CC means close combat. It just gets annoying having to write close combat agaiin and again and again and again...
Oh and for the record- dont try and make an all purpose Defiler, make it for shooting or CC. Use it to complement your armies strengths, like Aether Moose said.
FInally, maybe go for some Khorne Berzerkers as your cult troops so you can use the DP (Daemon prince) to move an enemy unit, the charge it with your Berzerkers. Or you can just shoot the unit to pieces with THousand SOns or Noise Marines depending on your style of play.
GOod luck with your Chaos Marines, Revan_101
What point limit are you aiming for with this list? 1000, 1500?
I agree on the Lash of Submission-Berzerker combination's effectiveness - it's so good it's just mean
Another thing, slightly off-topic: I wouldn't mix special weapons in your sqauds. Either go with 2x Plasma guns, or 2x Meltas, don't mix n' match. The fact is, if you want to stand and shoot, you'd be better off with a second Plasma gun for more shots, and if you're heading to combat, you'll want Meltas so you can fire on the way in. Plasma guns will get wasted here. So my advice is pick one of the other, shooting of CC.
thanks guys, ya sry about the CC thing, i used to play world of warcraft and CC for me ment crowd control lol. My army im trying to put a list together for is a 1000 point army. So far what im thinking of trying to do if its any good is somthing liek this.
Unit of cult troops x?
-which will either be for CC or ranged.
and if i have any points left most likly another heavy suppost like a Obliterator cult or Predator...can u hold Objectives with tanks? if not i may wana go with Obliterators cause im pretty sure they can.
Does an army with a basic outline of that look good?
Hmmm, I feel like, unless you're really set on using a Defiler, it might not be the best choice at 1000pts, unless you're using lots of other armor too (which isn't smart at low point battles). They tend to be scary and get blown up quickly without other things for Anti-tank weapons to fire at.
Your list outline, other than that, looks solid. Unfortunatly, thanks can't hold objectives, I believe they can contest them though. Same for Obliterators. I think troops are the only unit capable of capturing objectives now, annoyingly.
hmmm so in a 1000 point army should i run tanks and things such as defilers if they just gonna go boom? I mean iv heard defilers are bad as heck so if need be i good find some way to protect it. And even if it does draw the enemys fire for a few turns wont that give me a good chance to get my troops were they need to do and hopefully kill some stuff with the defiler?
