It appears to me that we don't have a unit that can simply go toe to toe with Genestealers (point for point). Their high initiative and high WS (especially in combination with feeder tendrils) leaves them as the ultimate CC unit. I'm facing Tyranids (500 pts) this weekend for the first time and I am wondering what good tactics/unit-combinations there are to deal with Genestealers. I expect my opponents list to be genestealer-heavy at this point-level. I'm thinking to DS on the other side of the board to buy some time to consolidate my forces, and then using a combination of pink horrors with bloodletters ~12" behind to counter-charge.
Flamers or horrors, str 4 ap 4 slaughters them all!!!!!!
Since genestealers are cc specialists shoot them.
Forget Flamers for this - you can get two horrors for the price of one and split them up more. Make it harder for the 'stealers to get to you. S4/AP4 them off the field. Even if they pay for the better save, they can't withstand that kind of shooting.
If you take something with Pavane, you can get them out from behind cover.
Just have something ready for their MCs.
Indeed, flamers and horrors are the way to go against stealers. Nettes aren't good enough and bloodletters get eaten before they can hit.
Imperial Guard: 3000 pts
Chaos Daemons: 1000 pts
Shooting is a good way to handle Genestealers but if you go too heavily into it then a balanced Tyranid army will beat you. I play a Tyranid player pretty often and I usually force his Genestealers to charge something I consider to be expendable like Plaguebearers or Nurglings so I can counter charge with Bloodcrushers or Bloodletters. Granted, he still gets to hit first but taking away the extra attack for charging and gaining all the benefits of Furious Charge will usually crush a group of Genestealers.
As far as MCs go, I have to chase down Carnifexes and Hive Tyrants with my Bloodletters because they run like little girls from that power weapon lovin'!
Well if he is taking feeder tendrils then just hide your bloodletters in some terrain, since they cant have flesh hooks if they have tendrils (if i remember correctly) then you will strike first.
- You must set fire to water or you will be extinguished.
Over the past few years numerous polls have been held to determine what some of the best CC units in the game are and Genestealers tend to come out at or near the top. Technically your chances of being able to go toe to toe with them (point for point) is slim. What you can do is what everyone else does....Shoot them....and shoot them good.
Nevermore Chapter: 6200 pts; 97/49/11; Longest Streak: 9 Wins/4 Losses; Nearing Completion
