I was wondering what everyone thought of the lesser daemons now that they're an unlimited source of scoring units (and thus kill points).
I was thinking 65 points for a scoring unit with T4 and a 5+ invul isn't terrible, not to mention the fact that you can summon them right to the objective they're needed for.
Just playing with the though...
their not too bad. cheap, & all the stuff you've listed... though i tend to not use more than one squad, i rather have points for plague marines & our other troops who pack more of a punch.
I use them to support my Bikers everyone keeps telling me both units are crap. Until I start wrecking shop when smash into them with my 6 bikes and 8-16 LD's.
They are great as a cheap scoring and/or assault support unit.
Its 75 points for CSM, and they can shoot with better armour saves. People do get greedy and kit these guys out though.
However, I guess if you are going for assault support the deepstrike and assault on the same turn characteristic is pretty awesome, the risk being that they come a little late.
I'm more concerned that the daemons will die too quickly and give the opponent cheap points in annhiliation, but if their assault buddies are more threatening looking I guess they may get ignored to some extent..
So maybe you can take a healthy mix of both - hold rear and fore objectives while diversifying your strength =)
Be nice to your enemies, it will make them madder!
I currently use two squads of 5 LD's for CC support and holding objectives. Results are mixed.
A friend of mine has a word bearers army that sports 2 10-man squads of CSM's and 3 12-man squads of LD's, a few termies, 2 vindies and a lord. The effects are quite devastating. The thing about LD's is that on the charge, they assault just like regular CSM's and are fearless.
