I know there's already a thread going on about chosen, but I'm pretty sure this is different enough from that one to warrant its own thread.
I was talking about chosen builds with a friend earlier today, and he suggested putting 5 chosen in a rhino all with meltas, and using the outflank manuever.
These guys would essentially be a cheap, suicidal squad that rushes right for the sides/backs of vehicles.
Alternatively they could all be equipped wtih flamers if you wanted to take out some large swathes of infantry.
I was wondering what you guys here thought of this idea. Or would it be better to have a slightly larger squad of chosen with a champion and power fist that would have a little more staying power?
im sorry, maybe its time for bed, but why not just infiltrate the chosen and blow what you want up with your meltas?
seems abit strange sloggin your way up in a rhino, when you can stand and shoot a tank to bits on turn 1
just seems a bit strange to me, but thats just me
I think the infiltrating chosen with the melta gun would be great but only if you were going first. Otherwise they would probably be a high priority target and probably die the first turn.
However I do believe you can outflank with the chosen in the rhino.
You can come in from the side, drive you 12' in the rhino, jump out and blast a tank with your weapon.
Of course.... then they all die, so make sure they kill something expensive.
Though I have heard of the idea of chosen with MoN and plasma guns infiltrated in cover to be a real pain to get rid of.
Also infiltrating some chosen with lighning claws and getting a first turn charge could be really effective.
Just some ideas.
I think the idea has real merit. I would probably make it a combination of Meltas and Flamers, maybe three meltas and two flamers or four and one. That way they're not wasted if you're looking at a footslogging or light-on-the-mech list.
chosen are a great unit, just love the havoc they create, but if you think of it this way, infiltrate with out a rhino, giving them 35 points to go crazy with, thats 1 point off 2 more chosen, alright so they wont have shiney meltaguns, they will however make nice looking corspes... what im trying to say cannon fodder.
they will be a suicide squad so expect them to die, they dont need 5 meltas in, 3 is plenty, bolter guys like to jump infront of there melta buddies
your unit is 175 for a throw away unit, mines 156 points... in both cases i would take a karmoon special only with meltas instead of plasmas
I really like this idea. It's actually cheaper than the suicide bike squad (basically, two bikers with meltas, and a champ biker with PF), and it could cause quite a mess if it comes out at the right time.
It would actually fit better with my Death Guard than bikes, too, and I've been looking for something along these lines to spice things up in my own lists.
Only way I can see it working is if you keep them cheap and multi purpose. Which is expensive to do.
6 Chosen, 3 combi plasma, champion w/ 1 dual lclaws x4 meltabombs in a rhino. 223
But why bother when you can just deep strike some combi plasma chainfist termies?
CCSM just aren't good, the only possibly useful squad configuration is
6 ccsm, 5 plasma, MoN, 233 then you infiltrate them in cover...and a 1/3 they can't infiltrate so it's still useless compared to deep striking termies.
Bottom line, stick to termies.
3 Terminators with 3 combi meltas = 105 points.Originally Posted by snarl
This is dirty and mean. It's the very core of min max gaming and considering how deepstrike units are developed for shooting, the appeal for this unit is obvious.
Suicide squads are great fun though, in the old codex i absolutely loved infiltrated plasma havocs (hail Alpha Legion! Hydra Dominatus!)
Speaking of havocs, have you seen how cheap their melta guns are?
195 points for an 8 man squad with 4 meltas and rhino.
That's a fair investment, but if you think about it you've actually got a squad with fairly good survivability and nice destructive capability.
150 points for the same squad in 5 man form...
now that is tempting...

In the end, even with Flank March, they were not worth it so I stopped using them. It was too much dependant on the luck of that turn of shooting and on the available target when they appeared... (you might appear on the side of the table that you don't want to...). Also a turn 3 appearance is less likely to be as effective as a turn 1 appearance and usually infiltration takes you too near the opponent army to do any good... if you don't have the first turn they're toast...
I've used deep striking Terminators with greater effect, especially when I use 3 groups of 3.
I have the following setup depending on whom I face:
- 1 Heavy-Flamer/PW; 2 Combi-Flamer/PW (105 pts)
- 1 Combi-Plasma/CF; 2 Combi-Plasma/PW (130 pts)
- 1 Combi-Melta/CF; 2 Combi-Melta/PW (130 pts).
This kind of setup can turn the battle in your favor. I know I could get rid of those Chain Fist to cut down the points but I still like to have them around for when there's a tank in sight. If the army I'm facing is not a swarm type army then I take only the Combi-Plasma's and the Combi-Melta's squads. Also having more than 1 squad of Terminators deep striking just gives you better chances that at least one of them will do something good.
